Faulty Windows 11 (beta) zip extraction and solution

There appears to be a fault with the windows 11 beta extraction tool which is corrputing the extracted files making them impossible to run.

Normally when I extract a zip file I just extract it using the built in Windows extraction tool from the file explorer context menu i.e. right click on the zip file and then choose extract all.

Just recently I tried to install the latest version of FSRealistic and found that the .exe file it extracted would not run at all, no error messages, just nothing happened.

Then again today I decided to install the beta version of LitleNavMap (2.8.2 beta). downloaded the zip file and extracted as above and got the same problem, the files appear to extract OK but the .exe file won’t run.

The solution for me is to use another method to extract the files (I used the free version of 7-Zip). If I extract the zip files using this I can then run the .exe files as normal.

I’m on beta 11. I just got FSR. works great.
It is not broken. Zip files work fine. You have some other issues. Nothing to do with windows.

Well all I can say is if I use the Windows built in extraction tool it fails to work. If I use a 3rd party zip extractor it works fine.

Also as I have mentioned in another post, the Milviz support page has this listed as a solution for problems with extracting install files for their products. So it seems it is a known issue for some people.

Maybe it’s only certain builds of the Beta and maybe you are on a different one to me? I’m on Windows 11 22HS build 22623.891
