I thought I’d start a thread focusing on the Flora & Fauna we see on our travels in 2024-world. Quite a few people appear to be enjoying getting out of their aircraft and taking a hike, which should not be too surprising, really. So, on your hikes, what plants & animals pique your interest? Post your pics here!
This is lake Kissimmee in central Florida. It is part of the three lakes wildlife management area, so I was hoping to see some alligators:
Asian elephant in India. Unlike other animals elephants do not have animation in my sim, however, being able to find them while walking in the forest is really great !
Those animals are somewhat unique animals that aren’t globally common. Incredible to find and see in the simulator.
Where are all the cows, sheep, ox, goats, horses and birds etc that make up far larger numbers to the entire planet. I think that’s what is more noticeable when it comes to missing animals.
If you fly low and slow, you will find 10 or 100 times more sheep, cows and horses than elephants in the sim. I saw probably 100 herds of asian buffaloes, sheep, Indian Gangatiri cows, 10 000 animals at least before seeing my first Asian elephant hidden in the rain forest of an Indian national park.
I miss birds though: cranes, stork, flamingos, vultures and eagles would be so great…
If I fly in European countryside, about a tenth of grass fields are populated by domestic herds (cows, sheep, horses). In my graphic settings, animals are set to “ultra”, I don’t know if it helps. I have a really slow connection so I guess streaming of animals isn’t an issue.
I made long flights in Scotland hopping to spot some red deers in national parks but it seems they are not there. This animal exists in Planetzoogame and that’s where animals come from in the sim so I was a bit disappointed… I wish all animals from Planetzoogames were really implemented in the sim, that was what I heard in an interview but it isn’t the case right now.
Just a small comment on the flora, although it has nothing to do with flight simulation. I don’t understand the flowers in the middle of cold winter, even thou the grass colors mimic a winter scene. Not sure what the idea was behind that design.
Not in Scotland that’s interesting maybe the animals don’t spawn in the UK. I have ultra too yes.
Want to test out the theory?
How about you give me a location you know there are animals and I’ll give you a location I’ve flown where I didn’t see any and we try each others locations?
I fly a lot from Old Warden & Duxford. Both in the UK.
Try either they’re close together. I fly from one to the other frequently.
Fly low and slow in my area between Chaux (LFGG) and Habsheim (LFGB), it is about 25 NM, you should find domestic herds in about a tenth of grass fields. I will try your location.
About Scotland: domestic herds do spawn in Scotland in lower grass fields but I couldn’t find any wildlife in the mountain range where I was hopping to see deers.
Ok I will check tomorrow as I’m up for work very early in the morning. Good luck finding animals. The Midlands and the South of England should be covered with cattle.
Anyone found crocodiles yet ? They are in the game files and the opening cinematic shows a floatplane passing low over a couple of crocs. I haven’t found any though, looked around northern australia mostly which is heavily populated with them in real life.
I was happy to find this thread. I also had wondered what more animals are in the simulator which are not part of the missions.
Well, I had found the “Tommys” (Thomson’s gazelle) already in Ngorogoro crater, although I didn’t get any close-up images of them. Was surprised that the impala is not included as it is the large mammal you find in highest numbers in many national parks in souther Africa, e.g. Kruger, Etosha.
Yesterday I did a fun flight up to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro, Tanzania, Africa and landed up there for a short walk. I would have been positively surprised to see Rock hyrax in FS2024, but I was even more surprised when I encountered not just one but two species of Bovini (cattle) up there. One herd of what I would call “Zebu” was grazing almost on the top of the highest mountain in Africa. Well, maybe it was a Bovine expedition group.
And I always thought its all arctic desert up there at 5,895m … well, maybe that was before the climate change kicked in and FS2024 started reforesting the world …
