Hi, I start my flights from the runway already started. I’m trying to figure out what I’m doing differently that sometimes the squawk code is already input on the transponder and sometimes it’s not. I prefer it be done already automatically. What do I have to do to have it done automatically?
Thanks.
Have AI answering the ATC. It’s not being done “automatically”. Your copilot is doing it.
Then he’s not doing it all of the time. I’m going to check what the conversation(s) with ATC were previously for the flight and see if I find any differences.
Thanks for your help.
It always happens after ATC clears your flight plan. They say something like “Cleared… SQUAWK xxxx” And then either you or the AI copilot repeat it back. After the repeat is finished, the Squawk gets set. If you’re not talking to ATC then this won’t happen. That’s the only way I can think of to why it’s not happening.
Thanks, that’s very helpful. The copilot process is either quirky then or I’m doing something slightly different between the two scenarios. Once I load in the flight plan all I really do is set up the AP panel on top, check the transponder and take off.
I’ll check that out when I’m home.
All the best.
I’ve seen this, too. Right now, I just always check and set it based on the ATC conversation history.
I wonder if it depends on when you click “Fly” during the opening cinematics? If you click too soon, maybe squawk is not input? Something worth testing I guess.
I usually leave the AI Copilot ATC function on so when I start on the runway (which is almost never), the first thing that happens is ATC clears your flight plan and gives you a squawk code. You can hear it even before you fully load into the aircraft. I’ve never seen it depend on how quickly you click the “Fly” button.
That is what I do. Sometimes I turn the AI Radio Communication off until I’m at the hold-short. Or if I’m in a GA aircraft.
This happens to me slso. When we spawn into the sim on the runway we have already been given our ATC clearance (assumably at the gate prior to pushback) so the co-pilot won’t answer or set it initially.
I always have to scroll back the atc clearance history to find my assigned altitude and most of the time the squawk code also. Then I enter the assigned altitude into the autopilot and set the transponder code before takeoff. I’d say that the code iS not entered in the transponder 90% of the time.
That’s exactly my experience too!
