So, I had a few go around recently and they always almost ended in disaster. First, I totally losing control of the autopilot. After going to TOGA and get to my climb, the autopilot will not stay on when i put it on, and changing the throttle eventually to climb it plane will accelerate to crazy speeds. after playing FCU Bingo for a couple of minutes I usually getting control of the plane back somehow. But when I enter the the new approach I am getting from the Approach ATC, I will not get any waypoints in the Flight plan of the MCDU. In all cases I was able to fly manual and eventually get the plane down safe. But I am sure the passenger cabin does not look pretty and I can smell the scent of fresh vomit through the cockpit door. What the heck I am doing wrong, why is everything going to hell as soon as I start a turn around? All the other flight phases always go so smooth…
The FBW is not able to follow missed approach paths. Not yet but they will work on it, for sure.
Autopilot issue is most probably Pilots error. Due to the fact, you have no missed approach path in the FMS, you have to set the FCU to selected mode and have to set all settings by your self. So, Speed, heading, altitude.
Ok, and let’s say I set everything by myself, how do I initiate the new approach so the auto pilot can follow it, or do I have to do everything with selected mode by hand until I capture the ILS glide slope again ?
Well you can fly that via heading or you can preplan your missed approach and add it to the MCDU after the goaround. If you have a bunch of waypoints you can add it one by one as a direct as another solution.
In the game the Approach ATC usually gives me the runway and a via. So, can I just put that via in the MCDU with the Direct option and keep asking ATC for heading to the next waypoint? Would that be a viable approach as well?
