Fenix A320 approach question

Hi

Can anyone explain why the plane is not slowing down when i go into approach mode ?

Here is an example of what happens

  • Plane is using managed descent and is setup for ILS landing with the correct approach information entered into the relevant ‘PERF’ page
  • Plane reaches 10,000 feet and slows down to 250kts
  • Plane slows down further to 220-230 kts (depending on constraints) when going over DECEL waypoints before the final approach fix

Now the issue occurs when im getting close to the final approach fix at say 220kts for example, at this point im expecting the plane to automatically slow down as approach mode is automatically activated and speed is still in managed mode but instead it just stays at 220kts and i end up having to turn on manual control of the speed via the dial to bring it down to a speed where i can lower landing gear/flaps etc.

on the PMDG 737 the plane slowing down seems to automatically happen and work correctly but for some reason the Fenix just won’t automatically slow down for the final approach even though the ‘approach’ page is filled out.

Do I have to do something differently? Any help appreciated

Sorry for sounding like a noob

I don’t know. Sometimes it works for me, sometimes don’t.
But anyway, I offten switch it to manual before finall.

I’m not a Fenix owner, but I have flown the A32NX from FBW a lot, and I believe the normal procedure there is, once you have entered the approach phase of flight, your speed is controlled by your flap settings.

So if you enter the approach phase at the DECEL point and you see your engines pull back, you should slow to around 210 kts. Now drop one set of flaps, and you will see your managed speed drop to Flaps 1 speed. Continuing to drop flaps will progressively reduce your speed target. At flaps 3 and 4, you should be a final approach speed.
