I need some help, i fly mostly the PMDG 737-800 but thought i would give both the FBW and Fenix A320’s a go, LOL
unlike the 737 i can control that with no issues at all (Taxing and going down the runway), but both A320’s for get it, taxing i can just about do sometimes but takeoff forget it i end up everywhere except on the tarmac, how on earth does one control this aircraft without rudder peddles???
i really want to try something different but hard to do so when you cant even takeoff
Agree. Pedal control while taking off in the Fenix A320 after their latest release is extremely difficult. I do always takeoff, but I do find I’m at the very far end of pedal. I wonder what the real life A320 pilots think? Could be we need to change some sensitivity parameter settings.
I’m new to the a320 V2 and also had a devil of a time taxiing until I found out that its much easier using the nosewheel steering. The documentation tells how to set it up.
I have been flying the Fenix for a few years now, I find taxiing with the nosewheel steering to be fine, however using the rudder for takeoff and landing I find it feels quite “heavy” (im using Thrustmaster pedals, and have experimented with various sensitivity settings and nothing seems to help). I find trying to keep it in a straight line on the runway both for takeoff and landing is quite difficult with a lot of wobbling around and overcorrecting movements so im all over the place. I have just landed at Gatwick (a bit windy, but the landing was fine) then trying to keep it centered its veered off the runway to the left and no input on the pedals made any difference whatsoever - I sometimes find braking with the pedals also freezes up the rudder/nose wheel inputs.
Ive just started flying the PMDG 737-8 a few weeks ago and find this so much easier to handle on the runway despite using the same rudder and settings, and using the rudder in the exact same way. Im not exactly a pro but Ive been flying long enough to be alright (but not textbook) and thought I was just not very good/lack skills/need practice, having solely flown the Fenix, however flying the PMDG is a breeze in comparison. I am starting to think its just a fenix thing. Same applies for the FBW A32NX, I have no issues keeping it straight and its much easier to fly!
After the V2 update, I finally set mine up with tiller steering via twisting my Airbus sidestick. For tight slow turns, differential toe braking with the pedals (and maybe differential engine thrust) works well.
When set up with a tiller, the rudder pedals still turn the nosewheel, with limited authority. I believe this is by design, for doing fine adjustments after you’ve started your takeoff roll or are exiting then runway on a high-speed ramp after landing. The tiller steering setup is “activated” once you simply trigger the tiller control to let the Fenix know you have one mapped, which I typically do right after pushback and before doing the FCTL test.
For the original poster, yeah, this plane will be very challenging to not have rudder pedals. What do you actually use to steer and brake?
the only way i know, to steer i use the Honeycomb yoke left and right axis which also turns the nose wheel and for brakes its a button on the honeycomb alpha, this setup works without any issues on the 737, but the airbus it just does not work at all, which is a shame as i would love to be able to them also, but its just so dam hard to control, however when i used to fly the original airbus on the XBOX that was easy as i just used the triggers on the back of the controller but i don’t have that luxury on the PC using the honeycomb stuff
