Fenix Airbus 321 & Thrustmaster Airbus Captains Pack Throttle Quadrant-Unruly!

Is it just me or is the Fenix A321 super hard to fly with manual throttles using the Thrustmaster Airbus throttles with the throttle detents in? It is very hard to precisely manage speed manually. It is a little bit easier to fly manual throttles with the Inibuilds A320. This is in huge contrast to flying a Boeing with manual throttles, which is a pure joy.

Funny timing as I ran into this exact same issue last night. The other day I finally picked up the A319 and A321 expansion and I was doing some manual flying in the A319 last night, and had the same experience of realizing how difficult it was to precisely move the throttles with the detents installed.

I routinely pull them out for planes like the Boeings and then put them back in for Airbuses. Up to now I’ve been thinking they really were required for the latter but then last night it occurred to me I should try taking them out, and it worked wonderfully! As expected you get much more precise control and even though I haven’t tried with A/THR yet, I would imagine that as long as you’ve done the throttle calibration in the MCDU, the sim should recognize when you’re in a detent and keep it there. I believe there’s also a way to set deadzones around each detent which would help if it has trouble recognizing when you’re in one of them.

So yeah, I highly recommend just pulling the detents out.

Yah, a friend flies the Airbus without the detents in and just moves the throttles until he hears the click in the cockpit. I have been resisting this to maintain the authentic detents that I have paid for. Plus my throttles are mounted on one of these, so taking the detents in an out is a hard pass. I guess I could use my Boeing throttles, but I like all the airbus levers and switches.

It is like Airbus only wants pilots to use managed or selected speed. I am so use to manual throttles in the Boeing because I like to gradually close the throttles over the threshold as opposed to having them slammed closed.
