The graphics are amazing as we all know. I can get decent fps with my very modest setup.
But, since day 1 I have been unable to save a joystick profile. The save icon appears to do something but the new profile is not available.
Now, creating my first IFR low altitude flight, I click on a waypoint to remove it and the ■■■■■■ thing CTD. Not for the first time either. With over a 4 minute load time I am reluctant to keep going back and starting again.
Agree, Microsoft has overstated the importance of having great graphics and left the rest of the sim severly lacking.
I’ve had Zero problems with controller setup and only one CTD so far in 20ish hours of game time, I’ve certainly had worse from other games.
BalloonYeti , Hey if you get a time please report all CTD via Zendesk. It only takes a few min to do it and it could very help them fix CTD issues.
OK. Will do.
The sim is behaving itself now. Just need to be able to save the profile for my joystick.
I too have been impressed by the graphics, but am not feeling great about the big jets and flight models. After all this is supposed to be a flight simulator not “world graphics” simulator. I have been flying Microsoft flight sims since 1995 and have lived thru many glitches, CTD’s, patches and upgrades to get performance functionality. All that being said I feel extremely disappointed and frustrated that my $120 purchase was a mistake. After all of the hype on apha and beta testing I really thought that we would have gotten a more stable usable platform to enjoy my passion of flying. I need someone to help talk me off the cliff, about ready to get a full refund and invest in x-plane. Help me Obie one Kanobe, you’re my only hope.
Yes, I took the time to validate the steps to reproduce the CTD when managing a flight – and specifically the approach procedure. I validated it on more than one PC, then took the time to write it up in a zendesk ticket. I also included a video.
The ticket was “resolved” by sending a form email with level one PC troubleshooting steps, and focusing on the end user PC being the problem. Very disheartening.
Can you describe the steps here so other players can maybe try to reproduce it and perhaps attract more attention?
CTDs have many factors behind them though…I personally have had a pretty stable experience, but it’s hard to tell whether I’m in the minority or majority of course.
Are you plugging your joystick in after the game starts? I had that issue where it would use the default button assignments when I plugged in my joystick in during start of the sim.
Agree the graphics are very good. I have a x52 pro and setting save ok. Biggest disappointment is with the ui and the less “real” sim of it. I have played all the MS flight sim games, prepar3. DCS, IL2 and some others. But again gamers want great graphics eather than a good hame now days.
Am having a ball flying around the world in a 172 atm not going to lie. VFR flights are just amazing.
My joystick is continually plugged in.
After all this is supposed to be a flight simulator not “world graphics” simulator.
TBH, I think it’s actually a bit of both. At this stage it’s kinda like a polished proof of concept, but not yet a fully-developed product. And it does a bit of flight sim and whole lotta visual impact as if to announce ‘See? We told you it was possible!’
Interesting to see how this improves over time. The foundation is very definitely there.
I see a lot of people saying this, but what good is a flight sim if the ground looks like s$#t?
Depends on what type of flying you are interested in, for IFR flying its not all that important. I would call it a VFR simulator in its current state.
The first flight sim games came out in the early 80s. What do you think they looked like?
Graphics are secondary to the actual simulation and functionality. You can have a flight simulator with bad scenery graphics - maybe not a great one, but it’s still a simulator - however you can not have a flight simulator with bad simulation.
Sure. Flying the C172 with the G1000 system, if you activate an approach procedure you will notice it inserts a waypoint called USER. If you try to delete that waypoint, it will delete the entire flight plan. If you then put your flight plan back in manually, and try to activate an approach, you will notice that it doesn’t activate.
But then, if you go back to the procedures menu, you may notice that "ACTIVATE APPROACH " is not greyed out. If you try to select that option and press “ENTER” button, it will CTD.
Couldn’t duplicate. When I manually enter a flight plan with just the departure and arrival waypoints, after deleting it (by CLR the User waypoint), the Activate Approach option is available, but if I choose it nothing happens, since there is no approach defined yet in the new flight plan.
If I select an approach, I can load it to the end of the new flight plan as usual, but there the Active Approach option is grayed out in this case in the PROC menu.
