First time using VATSIM

Looks like no real life experience here, correct?

Real life flying is simply also situation that I’m fly on local airport where no other traffic is existed. This is typical situation when I can finally report all and with frequency as is expected, if we talk about patterns flying as example. Now on rest of world is simply impossible sometimes to report something on Unicom, especially when my airport is near that bussy one with heavy traffic. Typical example Vienna LOWW and Bratislava LZIB. On some situation pilots over-reporting own messages one over other and is simply impossible to hear one normal message and be safe there in the air, in this time on Bratislava no luck definitelly  This test time with CTAF in USA is perfect and expected future as normal procedure to go to local airport CTAF after comm with ATC or pass higher level on Unicom, this include all airports as also that bussy ones. All CTAF freq of airports are on sectional map vissible, it is enough to set them on COM equpiment and report  Hope this will be pushed also to rest of world soon but what exactly freq (maybe real Tower) will be need to select.

Update: I’ve reported this already on VATSIM support after Live voice system was activated, that this situation will appear and can be problem, also about no correct airport IDs are used and sometimes not correctly reported.

Yes, every pilot leaving Online ATC freq is required switch this freq to monitor and say next intensions, via voice or text.

May I ask, what is the coverage for 122.800?

I like to fly VFR and I do position report on each leg, but there is no need if someone flies 100NM away from me hearing my report. It would be unnecessary information for him as well as occupying the frequency…

Its funny that you mention this, because its exactly what I do. I am working up my nerves slowly. I connect to VATSIM & fly in untowered and uncontrolled airspace, I think once I went into 2-way comms airspace and had a very short exchange with center.

Call it what you will, but I enjoy it. I hope that traffic flying over/near me happen to tune into CTAF & hear me calling out my traffic pattern.

I use it as a test of my Airspace knowledge for now, riding close to Class B or under it, and waiting to see if i get pinged/monitoring freq while doing so of course. It is satisfying because after a successfull flight this way, I confirm my knowledge of the airspace is correct & the more I do this the more my confidence grows to eventually enter that class B airspace or Class C (Canada)

my only goal is flying VFR, i will never fly IFR on Vatsim. But, I still use and enjoy it.

Coverage for voice is 15nm radius from each plane, so effective range is 30nm. Artificially limited as we don’t have CTAF (everywhere) yet!
