Fix the TwinOtter, and give us all the missing Variants! Please!

Hey MS/Asobo!

The Twin Otter is one of my all time Favourite planes, versatil plane that can be fitted with different undercarriages, can land Anywhere, STOL etc.

And while I was extremely hyped when I saw the TwOtter being in the Sim, I was Highly disappointed when I first tried it…

I noticed gaps between Interior and Exterior models, they don’t match, opening doors is quite buggy… The inside textures are as well not really satifying, the blue Coinmat in the cockpit looks too clean/bright…

Secondly, from what I heard, you bought the AS TwinOtter (or whatever you did, AS apparently removed it from their store for you).

Why in the World, do we end up with ONLY 3 Variants? And why the SHORT NOSE? the least common one?..

AS Had Much More Variants, why did you guys decided to do only the Short Nose with only 3 undercarriages?..

Here’s the List of the Variants I made for you

Short Nose
-Amphibious [Done]
-Floats
-Skis
-Wheels [Done]
-Wheels-Skis [Done]
-Intermediate Floatation Gear
-High Floatation Gear (Tundra)

Long Nose
-Amphibious
-Floats
-Skis
-Wheels
-Wheels-Skis
-Intermediate Floatation Gear
-High Floatation Gear (Tundra)

Doors Types
-Clamshell Doors with Airstair
-Clamshell Door, without Airstair
-Roll-up Skydiving Door
-Inward Folding Utility Door

Interior
-PAX
-Cargo
-SkyDiving

And why not the Upgraded version with a G950/G1000 or even a Series400 with its Primus Apex Avionics (I love Glass Cockpit), but I guess I’m asking too much for theses lol. Lets stick with the 300

I’m currently using the AS TwinOtter (moved it to community), Flies well, but lacks all the FS24 Features like the Tire Compression (for the Tundra version), ground handling, Flight dynamics etc and the Textures/modeling standards being outdated for FS24…

So Please I beg you, give us the missing TwinOtter Variants (and fix the current one too) Give this Legendary plane Justice!

Thank you for Reading!

We’ve been talking about this on the main twin otter forum. I’m really annoyed that I paid for the Aerosoft version and all the variants that came with it, but now it’s gone and replaced with an unfinished, stripped down version. I can’t even get the old one to be recognised by the sim, so we’re stuck with the new one for the time being.

I agree @FlyingSchimp ! Tho I’ve been able to bring mine to FS24 without issues

But not gonna lie, It doesn’t stand to FS2024 new standards… the GPS is Dark and can’t manually enter a FPL, Textures and Models are a bit cheap (the new TwOtter has better graphisms, but thats all hehe)

I really wish for Asobo to deliver us the missing variants…

Here is the AS one on FS24:

I have about 2k+ hours logged in the -300 series and was a tester for the AS DHC6 contributing manuals and experience for the 2020 release. There were I think two other Otter pilots on that team in addition to some other testers, and it was a huge shame to see how that turned out after all of the contribution we put into that project. Now, needless to say with the same development ethic carried to the new version, it suffers some of the same downfalls its predecessor had - and I knew this would be the case when it was announced. I think the main thing that bums me out most is that when these aircraft are offered for free, even at very very basic systems levels, they’ll never attract competition to make a high end product for it (obviously barring the never ending supply of Airbus addons the sim has - but that’s probably an edge case). This rendition actually flies better than the 2020 version at least - unless we attribute that to the improved flight dynamics engine in 2024 - for the most part (there are some oddities with the drag profile and torque settings seem a bit off from what I recall). Systems are wonky, the internal lighting is very weird, and the sounds need some tweaking. The ones I flew had no autopilot so can’t speak to that odd configuration they have modeled but most I’ve seen with autopilot are mostly fully glass cockpit. Some semi-glass, but mostly an all or nothing config.

Am sorry to hear about your Disappointment on AS TwOtter back Then, I felt it too as a user, and felt it again few days ago with what MS gave us…

I agree too, when you sais No Competition will come because its Free! The TwOtter is Less Popular than an Airbus (tho, we getting wayy to much Buses… Fenix, FBX, FSLabs etc)
When MS released the ATR years ago, it made MilViz/BlackBird to cancel theirs, and I must say that Milviz one was looking waayyy better (Models for sure, and can be sure about Systems too…) I was disappointed…

To thirt Party Devs if you read here! we NEED a proped Twin Otter SIMULATION, If your dont want to Step on Existing ones, There is Still the -300 Upgraded G1000, G950
-Series400 with Primus Apex
-DHC6-Classic 300G (G1000).

You got Options here!

The 2024 Twotter is a disaster! I have
680+ Hours in the Aerosoft version.Enjoyed getttng into too tough fly in ski resorts. Most dangerous airports, exploring Alaska and the panhandle etcetera. The Aleutian Islands starting at PATT

I was expecting a updated Aerosoft version like every one else! What did we get? A hobbled rushed plane. Shamful. I won’t be flying it. Can’t believe I said that lol. I will be flying the Albatross sea plane.

Did you buy it on the marketplace or from Aerosoft? I bought my copy directly from Aerosoft and it works in fs2024.
If it was the marketplace you bought it it has fs2020 drm/encryption so the files are tied to that platform.

I’m finding that the aircraft has a sound issue though with a hydraulic pump sound playing on endless loop during a flight.

I dont think I have the Hydraulics Pump sound loop on my end, and also, I got it on Aerosoft Websiten thats why I’ve been able to port it

@MikeyAir3272 I agree with you… I was expecting a lot more from them…but all they did was ruining such a beautiful aircraft…
Also I haven’t tried the Albatross you, but looks beautiful!

@Seb851 thats what I heard too, and the Modelling being made by iniBuilds (seeing Inibuid after their lovely planes such as A320neo v2 etc, I expected an amazing model… well I dreamed too hard I guess lol)

I flew the FS2024 Twotter a little bit yesterday. Two questions:

  1. Every 5-6 seconds there is whirring sound like a flap motor or electric pump. What is that? Is that normal? If not: how do I get rid of it?

  2. the warnings for “Bank Angle”, “Terrain” and “Pull Up” are way too sensitive, going off constantly when flying low or on an approach for landing, making them lose all meaning. Is there a way to silence them?

Yes, that is normal. It’s a hydraulic pump that turns on occasionally to maintain pressure. It shouldn’t be turning on constantly every 5-6 seconds though

This probably has been covered previously but i am dissapointed there is no long nosed Twin Otter . Could I make it part of the wish list if there are no plans at present to add one.

This Version of the DHC-6 is a total disaster. Have you tried to fly HDG mode? :joy: It will fly somewhere but not the way is should. I would like to fly hdg 305 but I have to select 059 to go 305, Authorities will not accept that. Basically its not usable. But, see the whole MSFS 2024 product and you will find a direction of “presenting half things”. Not everywhere but at several topics. And now you have to wait at least 6 more month because updates become rarely. And if your problems are not adressed, you will wait a year or longer or forever. So, good to have 2020 still installed…

We really need the long-nosed variant at least on floats. Plus, access to the paint kit would make everything more enjoyable. It is tough with such a small variety of skins. Especially, for such a widely used and versatile aircraft.

I still prefer the AeroSoft Twotter, works fine in 2024.

We havent forgotten about this @Microsoft. Posting to bump this topic.
You completely wrecked a legendary aircraft.

I’ve been following this whole Twin Otter situation for a while now, silently. I’m a sucker for bush flying action and honestly, I think a lot of us are trying to understand the logic behind what’s currently being delivered here.

The Twin Otter is not some random niche aircraft. It’s one of THE go-to planes for bush flying, STOL ops, remote strips, floats, skis… basically a perfect match for what MSFS2024 is supposed to be about, with all those pretty landscape visuals. That’s why it’s so confusing to see the Twotter in its current state.

Right now, the aircraft feels like a step backwards compared to what we already had before. We’ve gone from a version with multiple variants and configurations to something that is much more limited, both in terms of features and overall depth. That alone is hard to justify from a customer perspective.

On top of that, there are still noticeable issues with systems, visuals, interactions, and general polish. Most things are not catastrophic on their own, but together all of this gives the impression that the aircraft just isn’t finished to the same standard as other content in the sim. And that’s where things really stop making sense — because this is first-party content now, a standard plane in the best sense, representative of the entire MS2024 product. Not just a small third-party release.

I think the bigger concern for many people is the precedent this sets. Some of us paid for a more complete Twin Otter in the past, and now we’re effectively left with a version that has fewer options and less flexibility. Even if that wasn’t the intention, that’s how it comes across. And that’s not a great feeling as a customer. At all.

The frustrating part is that the solution isn’t unclear or unrealistic. The community has been pretty consistent about what’s missing:

  • More variants (long nose, different gear types like floats/skis/tundra)
  • Better use of MSFS 2024 features (flight model, ground handling, etc.)
  • Fixes to the broken systems, visual and interaction issues
  • A bit more depth in systems and avionics usability

This isn’t about asking for hundreds of hours of extra refinement work or some kind of study-level overhaul. It’s about bringing the aircraft up to a point where it feels reasonably realistic and, most importantly, actually fun to fly.
I’m an addon dev myself and completely understand that priorities have to be set, and not every feature (or in this case aircraft) can get the same level of attention at the same time. That’s just the reality of development. But in this case, the Twin Otter has been sitting in this state for so long that it’s becoming harder and harder to justify.

At some point, it stops being a question of prioritization and starts feeling like neglect - especially for an aircraft that should be one of the highlights of the sim.

This aircraft deserves way more attention, and fixing it would for many of us go a long way in restoring confidence that MS actually listens to its customers and that first-party content is moving forward, not backwards.

Couldn’t agree more. I’ve been going on about the poor quality of the Twin Otter since MSFS2024 was released. I purchased the Aerosoft version from the 2020 Market Place, so can’t use it in MSFS2024. VERY frustrating when considering that Aerosoft got it into a good state by the time MS / Asobo took it over. Folk keep mentioning that once the ATR is sorted, they’ll start improving the Twotter. Fingers crossed they do, because I’m sticking with MSFS2020 until then.
