Brand new to MSFS2020 here. Have spent some time with earlier versions, though. Anyway, doing a flight in a C152 KTKI-KTKI to get familiar with the sim. A couple of issues so far:
-
I programmed a switch on my CH Flight Sim Yoke to operate the flaps but it doesn’t work. I end up looking down and using the mouse to move the flap lever.
-
ATC talks to me and then starts nagging me because I haven’t acknowledged their transmissions. Problem is, I can’t find a way to do it! Tried to find a PTT function to program to a yoke switch, but doesn’t seem to be one. Looking down and clicking on sim’s red PTT on the yoke just hides the yoke.
What am I missing here?
Thanks!
You have a couple of options here. If you move your mouse to the top of the screen you will see various icons. The one on the far left is the ATC window to where you would choose a reply or action in general.
The PTT isn’t the ATC window and is for things like VATSIM or 3rd party ATC apps that use it (I use Pilot2ATC which I can use my voice so PTT is operable). You should map your PTT button of choice but not as the PTT button, but instead the ATC window. That will present the ATC menu. It’s called “Display ATC” in settings.
Always be mindful of setting any keyboard or other command as it may be already taken so be sure to clear it for use before you validate it for something else. So after you select a button for your Flaps, be sure to “Validate” it. Then click “Save and Apply” and you should be all set, providing that button is available and there’s no conflict.
Hope that helps.
“Scroll Lock” is the default keyboard key “PTT” toggle for “Display ATC”. Optionally you could also assign this to either of the yoke’s trigger buttons #1 or #2.
On my CH Yoke I assigned button #7 to “Decrease Flaps” and button #8 to “Increase Flaps”.
Physically these are located on the CH yoke as the grey, lower right up/down toggle.
