Flaps axis 0-100 inoperative

Brief description of the issue:
Before sim update 5, my flaps axis bound to a lever on my quadrant, would set flaps in game to the closest notch. Now, after the update, it is a continuous movement.
There is a control in the settings (Flaps axis 0-100%) that has a description of exactly what I want. Put the flaps to the closest notch. Howver, when I bind an axis to it, it says this axis is not recommended, and does not work at all. Even though the description describes exactly what I want.

For the last five days, I have been searching everywhere for an answer. I am hoping someone on this forum can point me in the direction where I can find a solution to locate “Flaps Axis (-100 to 100)" that are missing from the Controls Options in MSFS 2020 list.

I am setting up the Boeing 747 flaps on the Honeycomb Throttle. I am assigning/binding the controls flaps to the very right controls lever (marked “FLAPS”) on the Honeycomb Throttle. When I go to “Controls Options” in MSFS 2020, there is no options for “Flaps Axis (-100 to 100)”. I search using all the method provided by MSFS 2020 sim, but nothing comes up that matches. The only option that comes up is “Flaps Axis (0 to 100)”. I tried using “Flaps Axis (0 to 100)”, that did not work.

Is there a work-around, where I can map/reinter the “Flaps Axis (-100 to 100)” back to the “Controls Options” list area? It would be wonderful if anyone have any other solutions that may work.

I’m sorry man. Issue still there for me. I’ve resorted to using buttons.

Thank you for responding. What do you mean by using “buttons”?

I mapped up/down buttons to cycle through the stages instead of having them on an axis like I used to have. Example: If I want flaps three, I’d press the down button three times.

Hi JOJOE45,

Thank you for your follow up. I greatly appreciate it.

Yes, I attempted using your suggestion of mapping the flaps lever/buttons to the up/down Controls Option, with no good results.

I believe there is another problem with the sim and flaps setup. When I use any other mapping, such as “Flaps Axis (0 To 100)”, the Flaps lever in the sim cockpit, behaves as if it is mapped to a toggle switch. I checked and verified that there is no other buttons/levers mapping attached. In addition, Flaps Axis (-100 To 100) is missing from all my other controls setup, not only the Boeing 747.

I recalibrated the Honeycomb Bravo Throttle Quadrant in the Control Penal with no success. At this point, I have uninstalled and reinstalled the program, which is a pain, because it takes a few hours to update. I am hoping this is the magical fix for the problem. If not, I am back to square one…!

I’m very sorry to hear about your troubles sir, I hope they are resolved soon.
For now, I would say to submit a detailed report of the issue and hope its resolved.
Regards

Update…! My efforts to uninstall and reinstall MSFS 2020 to fix the Flaps Axis (-100 To 100), missing controls did not work. The problem persists with the same challenge that will not allow me to setup the Flaps on the Boeing 747 correctly.

ouch. That is really too bad. Have you submitted a zendesk report?

****** Edited when I checked my settings *****

I had a similar problem yesterday as I tried to bind the flap lever to F-18 on the TCA Quadrant.
flap axis joystick L - Axis Z

Three times I tried and it didn’t work ( no lever movement on the screen) I then went to check on the binding for the flaps on the FBW and it’s the same L - Axis Z, so I went back to the F-18 profile and lo & behold it was functioning correctly!
Don’t know if it’s any help to anyone but, it looks as if it hasn’t gone in and saved, but in reality, it did!

P.S. the F-18 has only 2 Flap positions so on the TCA quad you have to move 2 notches to hit the first position, and 2 more notches for FULL flaps.

I use the Thrustmaster Airbus SideStick & 2 Lever Quadrant + add-on
And the Flaps axis is just that " Flaps Axis " without the 0-100% and it works fine.
Same with Spoilers but they are " Spoilers Axis " R-axis Z

The Thrustmaster Picture is not what I found to work, It could just be my settings and I don’t use the mapping 0 - 100%

Window 10 pro 64
Thrustmaster Airbus SideStick & 2 Lever Quadrant + add-on
Ryzen 7 3700X
GIGABYTE RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB GAMING OC Pro
Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB (DDR4-3200)
Gigabyte 1TB M.2 PCIe NVMe
Gigabyte B550 AORUS ELITE
MSI Optix 3440 x 1440

JOJOE45, I am fairly new to this forum, not familiar with Zendesk Report. I am interested in contacting them and submitting a report for some help. How is it done? Any help I can get with this problem is good. Thanks in advance!

TastierOsprey80,

Thank you for reaching out.

I took a look at your picture above with Controls Options listed. It looks like you are using Flaps Axis. In addition, it allows you to bind a lever/controller to control it, with a reverse Axis option.

It is very interesting. I am not getting that option under my controller options. I will take another look at my controls options list again, to determine if what you have can be duplicated on my sim. Thanks, the info is very helpful.

Hi UnbentBasil1179
Don’t forget to make sure your controller is highlighted/selected in the Control Options.

Then go to the Filter section and change to … ALL ( not Assigned or essentials )
Then below that make sure it is on … COLLAPSE ALL ( as shown in the picture above lefthand side)

Finally, click on the … COLLAPSE ALL again to see all the Sections Listed

Once that is done all keys/axis will be listed

Click on Secondary Control Surfaces, and the Spoiler and flaps Options will be available.

Don’t be like me and get hung up on the 0-100% input only representing an AXIS
because that is not the case.

P.S. don’t leave anything in the " Search Field " as that can limit what you see.

Hello TastierOSprey80,

I found a solution to the problem. After all my efforts to fix the issue, I concluded that there was something unstable with the Sim program. I ruled out the computer been the problem. It is a very powerful gaming machine, purchased in the last few weeks and is more than capable of running MSFS 2020 comfortable without issues.

I decided to move the MSFS 2020 “Onestore” and “Community” folder from the 1TB “C” SSD drive to a different 2TB “D” Hard Drive. In addition, I downloaded and installed all files in the contents manager. I wanted to determine if that will make a difference. As a result, it worked. Both folders listed above can be found by turning on Developer mode in the sim “ON”, go to tools, then select the Community option.

The MSFS 2020 program remain on the faster “C” drive. I ran the MSFS 2020 sim after pointing it to the new drive location. Then, uninstalled and reinstall the Honeycomb Bravo Throttle quadrant software drives. All Flaps re-appeared in the Controls Options and was functioning properly again. There was no toggle like performance issues with flaps lever or buttons. The entire performance of the sim was enhanced.

To prevent any delay responses between the two drivers, “C” and “D”, I moved the “Onestore” and “Community” folder to a new location on a replacement 2TB SSD “B” drive. I now use the “D” drive for backup of the data and storage.

At the new location, both folders can increase in size, as they will receive future updates and addons without affecting the sim’s program performance. In addition, I also determined that the new version of MSFS 2020 may no longer have the option to use “Flaps Axis (-100 to 100)”, now providing only Flaps Axis (Reverse Axis) and other Flaps option.

This fix may or may not benefit others. It will depend on their setup, hardware, and software options. Thanks for all the help…really much appreciated it.
