Flashing Textures on XBOX Series S

For some reason whenever I fly over Sao Paulo Brazil I get flashing textures on the buildings, I have tried a few different planes, different time & weather settings but nothing seems to fix it.

If you set your departure point as the S in Sao Paulo it should start you close enough to see the problem.

It’s not your settings or the plane. There are issues at locations all over the world where the performance downgrade of models and textures that occured with SU5 has resulted in some pretty odd stuff. Edinburgh is almost all not there at all! :-/

Thanks for the reply mate, I hope they can sort out some of these issues in the next patch

I noticed the same bug in São Paulo, I fly there quite often because it is my home town, and it is always flashing… haven’t noticed the issue in other places yet.

I lived in Tatuape for 6 years and I was really looking forward to flying over the places I remember, that flickering ruins the experience for me though

I hope it gets fixed in the brazil update

I just tried this location on a series X and it’s the same. I changed the time of day too for different lighting angles and any daylight has flickering textures, but it seems to me more noticable at dusk with low sun. Switch to nighttime and it seems to go away. Definitely a bug with daytime textures or something. It’s not every building either, just the taller ones it would seem. I’ve not seen this before. Worth reporting it if it hasn’t been reported already.

I hope so too - it would be frustrating for me if there were serious issues with my stomping grounds. There are definitely larger sim-wide bugs that need attention though.

I am not sure if this is a series S specific issue but I have notice it really struggles to load photogrammetry data so I hope the Brazil update doesn’t lead to an even worse experience. That being said, if you really want to enjoy a specific area you can play with the rolling cache and fly it multiple times to see if that helps.

Fixed with the latest beta of sim update 10 (1.27.14.0)

So glad to see this fixed in sim update 10
Overall the performance seems much better too

You guys are lucky this isn’t happening on FS 2020 because it’s happening now in FS 2024, Xbox. Don’t know if PC users are seeing it too. Exact same issue: textures flashing on and off and not staying loaded. Created a post about this actually:

Please contribute your thoughts here as this issue needs to gain some momentum, and hopefully, Asobo will acknowledge it, roll out a fix, all that good stuff.

This is a 2 year old issue that was fixed in sim update 10 for 2020. I am seeing it on Xbox Series X occasionally on 2020 and all the time on 2024. I believe it was identified as a memory leak where data is being lost and having to be reloaded

Yes, I think that’s exactly what’s happening now in 2024 on the Series consoles. When do you think they will fix this? There’s no way to escape it and you have to restart the sim to get the textures to load and show normally.

I believe that a few 3rd party developers have raised the issue with Asobo as it is causing them problems so fingers crossed it gets the attention it deserves

Oh they have? That’s good. I’m not sure at this point if Asobo is taking this as a “pressing” issue. It is extremely annoying as it makes the world look lifeless, as if it has no depth, objects, or detail.

It can happen at any time, no matter how many flights you’ve done. It’s not my internet that’s for sure. It could be a mix of their servers not running optimally and memory leaks within the Xbox.

I can only speculate however. I’ve learned that 2020 had the same problem and they ironed it out in SU5 or something. Well, I hope they fix all textures and LOD/draw distance related issues for now on an ASAP basis and it’s something everyone is facing, particularly Xbox users.

I hope this gets fixed soon too. Earlier today, whilst the ground and hills were flickering away, the engines on my Longitude turned into squares

The experience was finished off, by a static airliner flashing in and out of view right beside me. Also, some aircraft stairs and cones right near me, that appered to be melted.

For a first party game, what an embarrassment.

It really can be embarassinly bad looking. I blieve it’s a mix of all these things:

  • Bad optimisation and not utilising the Xbox’s hardware fully (Series X can easily muscle up to this game)
  • Poor server bandwidth on their end
  • Possible memory leaks on the XBox which were not addressed before release

We all have reasonably fast internet so these graphical glitches are on their end. It really makes the game unplayable, this deserves to be among the highest priority fixes!

I wonder if being allowed to download things locally, may help at all.

This is going to be another one of those “angry” posts, so bear with me people:

I’ve had it with this game, about to delete and reinstall 2020. The flashing textures are absolutely ruining flying and I can’t seem to have a normal session because of it.

Today, I just wanted to do a quick flight in the A321 over Tokyo, so I thought “well, let’s start the game fresh and go straight into the Tokyo flight.”

It was a nightmare the moment I loaded into the flight - The fps had almost tanked to zero; when the game finally unfroze and got me into the cockpit, it was black avionics everywhere and blurry cockpit textures. The graphics then slowly started to return to 5 fps then 10 fps. Plus, I saw buildings and objects flashing on/off against the Tokyo skyline and thought “oh no, here we go again with the flashing textures”, even though I

had just loaded into the game with my first flight.

I had to restart the flight immediately that’s how bad it was. When I did the avionics were bad, but fps were still very poor, around 15-20 I think. So I took off, and there were textures flashing all over the place. I’ve attached two videos, including the one with the A321.

Surely, the developers can’t afford to ignore this anymore, right? There’s people talking about this exact issue on Reddit and Facebook, and come helpful folks there are guiding them to the forum or to the Zendesk ticketing system.

Look, I want the developers to level with me here: did they knew the game was this bad on Xbox and still released it? I know the PC users are getting issues too but not sure if they also get flashing textures.

As someone suggested, downloading content locally might help, but this also seems like a memory issue. Wasn’t MSFS '20 and '24 build primarily for the Xbox and then ported over to PC? Is there not a dedicated Xbox team overseeing development?

Please Asobo, you’re a running joke on social media, sorry to say. Sort out this product or you’ll be losing lots of customers. Almost criminal to release a product in this state and ask people to pay for preorders!

Sorry, but I’ve posted this in another thread as well - I really need this to be on the developers’ radar and hopefully have a fix ASAP, thnak you!

Meanwhile, the cockpit in my airbus

I am on Series S and I am on the beta. When I first got on the beta the airport seemed fine. They only had the AI traffic not working (planes running through terminals and jerways, etc). Now, they are flickering. I usually fly out of inibuilds JFK and when this started happening I tried other airports. The clip is from KSFO (game airport).
