Flickering cockpit shadows are back again in SU5

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Description of the issue: Cockpit shadows are flickering again since the SU5 update. I thought MSFS2024 was supposed to have fixed this? The shadows on the glareshield “shimmer” or flicker, a little bit when stationary and worse when moving. Noticed this on both the Fenix A320 and default A330. It could be on other planes too, but I haven’t tested those. I note that the shimmering looks worse with lower shadow map resolution.

REPRODUCTION STEPS

Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:

  1. Load up a plane (e.g. A330) at Zurich airport runway 32 on a sunny morning and get some sunlight to shine on the glareshield

  2. Release the parking brake and start rolling forward.

YOUR SETTINGS

Peripherals: Thrustmaster Airbus pack and Turtle Beach rudder pedals.

Hardware: i9 13900k, 64gb RAM, RTX 4080, 4k 30” monitor

Dev mode off

Running in 4k screen resolution.
I’ve tried DLSS Super Resolution and TAA anti-aliasing.
I’ve tried frame gen on and off.

I’ve tried shadow maps at 760, 1024, 1536 & 2048
I’ve tried 2 different nVIDIA drivers (596.36 and 591.74).
I’ve tried AMD Fidelity FX Sharpening at 0, 50 and 100.
I’ve tried V-Sync on and off.

Nothing seems to make it completely go away but higher res shadow maps make the effect less bad.

MEDIA

I can try to make a video if you need one.

If you can, it is always useful to see this type of issue.

I see flickering in the intro video, DLSS on or off.

this might be from VRR enabled.

this game adds awful flicker on whole screen at VRR mode enabled.

(PS5 Pro + Sony Bravia TV)

What is VRR?

Variable Refresh Rate.

Did you manage to fix the issue? Im also having the same issue here. Ray traced shadows help with the aircraft shadows only but any other shadows by buildings or vehicles still look absolutely terrible. Barely even existing tbh. I even turned the resolution to 8K in the user.cfg and that helped a little bit but still looks like 1024 resolution on SU4. Any fix?
