Flight Planning Missing Features

I am not 100% sure if these features are really missing, or if I am facing some bug. Do let me know if it is the latter.

  1. Please show a more detailed satellite map during flight planning. If I want to create a scenic path along familiar locations over my hometown or some other familiar city, it is quite difficult I can’t see any of features of the city along which I can plot my path, especially if there are no waterbodies nearby. If browsers can render detailed maps from google earth / bing maps (incl. the manual caching map in the game), there is no reason why this can not.

  2. I am having serious trouble setting custom navpoints during flight planning. It is quite easy to set up a path from one airport to another, and that is much appreciated. But whenever I try to create a custom navpoint by clicking on the map, 90% of the time the UI tries to pan the map instead of creating a navpoint. If I add navpoints or points of interest to the flight path, they get added arbitrarily, and does not give me the option to reorder them.

I hope some of these typical features get added, e.g. -
a. Moving a custom navpoint by dragging on the map (thus changing the path).
b. Clicking on a line of the path creates a navpoint / vertex (breaking the line in two) there that can now to dragged.
c. Re-ordering navpoints via drag and drop on the row at the top where they are displayed, or somewhere else.

It seems if I try to click on an empty area on the map, the UI highlights one of the existing flight path lines nearby instead of creating a navpoint. Again not sure if its a bug, just that it seriously gets in the way of creating flight paths.

I am flying the Textron Cessna 172 G1000 and I would like to know how to import a G1000 FMS file into the G1000. I create flight plans with iflightplanner which creates a FMS file.

I can easily do this with XP11 as it is a text file and I can access the folder in XP11 that contains flight plans.

I can not figure out how to do this in FS 2020

I am currently creating FSX flight plans in Plan-G. I am able to import them into FS2020 using the in-game load option.

Without some documentation I have no reference for something called “in-game load option”. What is that and what is the process how does one do that? Can’t find any documentation.

When you are in the flight planning screen (main menu > world), you will see there is a “save / load” button near the bottom of the screen.

I suppose you need FSX installed in order to install Plan-G and let it create a database…? I also think the ingame planning map sucks big time. I can’t add custom waypoints at all! And it’s indeed impossible to create a detailed plan. I was thinking about installing Little Nav Map: don’t know if Plan-G would be better or not…

Plan-G does need any one of FSX / FS9 / Xplane / Prepar3D installed before it lets you create flight plans.

Bummer. Then I will have to look at LNM. Pity because I’m used to Plan-G…
