Flight sim and x box series x storage space

I have a question regarding updates

In the content manager some updates have multiple numbers

For example there is a USA 11 update and USA update X

What is the difference

Also on my x box series x I have already used 26.9%
of storage space

I have no other games installed on the series x

I am worried that if I continue to update with the mandatory updates and all the world updates that I will run out of space on the series x

Also is it safe to delete a world update from the content manager if I want to to free space. How do I do this

What is the best way to approach this ?

There must be something else going on if you have almost filled 1TB with only MSFS. When you check the whats using the storage in the Xbox system, is it all MSFS? Even with all of the World updates I’m under 200 GB.

What percentage on series x should flight sim be if its the only game installed

Mine is showing 28.3 % space used

With 574.8 GB free on series x

How do i resolve this problem

Thanks

I’m not at home right now, but I’m sure its less than 30% for Premium Deluxe with all the world updates. Do you have many other addons?

Thats not a problem, that looks about right. you’ve loads of space left.

Will i run out of space if i keep installing world updates ?

I am installing one more update now and will give you the new figure shortly

Not any time soon. Remember updates aren’t all additional, some of them replace exiting files. If a WU is 10Gb for example, you’ve enough space for 50 of them. And typically they only release 5 or 6 a year. The console will have died long before then. Don’t worry and enjoy your flying

The reality is, yes, if World Updates keep coming it’s entirely possible we will hit our storage capacity of the Xbox. This is made worse if you’re also purchasing and downloading Marketplace Content.

Like you, I’ve only got MSFS installed on one of my Xboxes. My install is currently at 311.9GB. I’ve got the Premium Deluxe Edition, all World Updates, and significant amount of Marketplace Content, too.

What I don’t know is if the Xbox OS can utilize a storage expansion card to spread the install across the internal and external storage. My suspicion is is cannot, but I don’t know that for sure.

Regarding “WU11” I’m fairly sure you’re misreading that as 11 rather than II, which is WUII or WU2. The USA received two World Updates, II and X, so you’d want both installed if you’re interested in what they offer.

I think its safest to stop installing world updates after today

The problem is i get mandatory game updates that i must install before i can start the game

How often do mandatory game updates get rolled out ?

The storage expansion card question is a very important one we need to know the answer to

That depends. They used to come more frequently, but now they’ve throttled their releases back to, maybe, twice a year? We’re set to get one here in March.

They are known as a “Sim Update” or SU.

You’ve 500Gb to play with, why stop?
If you get to the point where you have 100Gb left, then buy the 2TB card and move MSFS to that.

How much storage space roughly in a mandatory update ?

I am in the UK

Is it definitely only going to be rolled out twice a year

I have an expansion card on my other Xbox, and I’ve thought about seeing how I could split the install on my “simming” Xbox.

I’ve fiddled with the storage management options on the Xbox, but the issue is you can move/copy a game to/from a storage device, but what you don’t seem to be able to do is move the “Reserved Space” to/from a storage device. This Reserved Space is where all downloaded content is saved, along with individual aircraft custom camera settings, a few select sim options and the Rolling Cache data, if you have that enabled.

That is going to vary with each and every update and is impossible to determine ahead of time other than seeing what the beta version weighs in at.

If you have an expansion card and say your internal storage has run out of space

What your saying is the updates will not install to the expansion card - i think

Yes, but until I do fill the internal storage, I can’t test this theory. It would be brilliant if the OS was able to manage splitting that Reserved Space across two storage devices, but I just don’t know if it can.

So nobody knows the answer to this for definite

No.

Of course, as @XR219 said, we do have the option of purchasing a 2TB expansion card (I’ve got the 1TB), but the cost is $360 right now and that is not cheap. It’s cheaper than a new PC or a second Series X, but it isn’t an inexpensive solution for some.

Having installed all the free world updates

With only flight sim installed on my series x

My series x is showing as

30.4 % used space

558.2 GB free

What is the safest thing to do know ?

Carry on with the installing updates on to the internal storage

OR

Do I need to move the whole game to a 2TB expansion card

At what point for percentage of used space - do i need to consider moving the whole game to a 2TB expansion card

Thanks

Yep, but my point is that with 500 GB left, there at least a couple of years left on the current storage.
Remember the current usage includes the original sim, plus 2 and a half years worth of updates.
