FlightSim Studio B727 Freighter

:+1: Mrs’ birthday present or this :-1:

Ha, seriously, I might have to pick this up. Used to love Erick Cantu’s version in FS9.

I am aware that the B727 launched into the skies commercially a little later than 1958, though perhaps this addon will come handy to those wanting to roam over the U.S. with more appropriate set of navaids than those represented by the latest AIRAC.

Love this aircraft, great piece of work.
Minor issues, speed brake, flap lever and parking brake way to small, also really would love to see a weather radar fit.
other than that a fantastic product.

First I would like to say I am overjoyed to be back in the cockpit of a 727 albeit a virtual one. I do not know if the developer checks this but since there was no provision for commentary on discord I figured I would drop the results of my first preflight on this aircraft here in hopes the developer may find interest in it. Anywhoo, this is the first time I have preflighted the cockpit of a 727 in a few years so forgive the omissions, I’ll be right as rain for my Engineer PC haha.

  • DC Meter Selector left on BATT. in C/D cockpit. (This position causes a draw that will eventually deplete the battery).
  • The real aircraft does not have backlighting on the P-6 circuit breaker panel, this is handled by lights mounted on the FE panel or the use of the dome light.
  • Bleed Switches were left in the closed position (this is procedural from my airline) but in the event a battery dies having them open leaves you with a way to get a motor running.
  • Light override is very intense haha.
  • Lower cargo fire test, the bell rings but all lights do not illuminate (armed, det fault, btl disch, and green squib lights).
  • Emergency exit lights do not illuminate when switch is positioned to ON
  • Window heat overhear test, the green and amber lights should illuminate until the overheat is reser by cycling the window heat switches.
  • Wing A/I switches are spring loaded in the Ground test mode and return to off when released.
  • GPWS test, one (i believe 5 second) push should cycle all 7 modes plus sub modes, I got two by holding the switch continuously.
  • There is a -80 amp draw (or full scale) on the battery with the aircraft powered up.
  • ESS TR / DC-1/ DC-2 all have zero amp draw.
  • Unable to switch cabin / cargo temp control to manual mode.
  • When turning on the left or right pack there is no draw as seen on the APU amp meter. Should be very large initial starting load for the pack fans,
  • I was pleased to see the APU EGT decrease when turning the 2nd pack on ( props for understanding the flow multiplier but the animation is very abrupt).
  • Pressurization panel, in the Manual AC/DC modes you can not open or close the outflow valve.
  • The auto pack trip system is missing the engine fail lights on the forward glare shield ( yes this is important) this has an associated performance penalty and with -9 engines on a -200 you will need all the performance you can get.
  • Stall Warning test switch should be spring loaded to normal, also there should be 2 stall warning systems.
  • G/A switches are supposed to be mounted under the thrust levers, I see you modeled the housing but not the paddle switches, It only gives you wings level and 12 degrees nose up guidance for those that think it will save you.
  • Stabilizer cut out switches do not work.
  • Cruise Trim switch is modeled but does not work.
  • The APD test function is not correct, the left side should test green and the right side should test amber (I may have flipped the colors its been a while).
  • Only a single Mach airspeed warning tests, switch should be spring loaded to neutral and there should be two different clacker tones.
  • Airspeed A/B mode switch does not change Vmo/Mmo indicator (barber pole)
  • Yaw Damper test switch is inoperative
  • Fire Warning Test has no provision to check wheel well fire detection system.

So far that’s what I have before starting the first checklist, for the record this is to help the dev or help others make a decision. I am not counting bolts for the sake of being nit picky, I would like this to be a great representation of Boeings best airliner. I’m off to fly some arcs through the mountains of Mexico and pretend I’m in my 20’s again, peace out homies.

Post Script: This was done by memory and I intend to dust off the manuals and go through this with references available later. I may still have Acceptance / Test Flight proceedures that Ill use as my guide.

Hi @MetenLofen ,

Great list of write ups, which hopefully the developers will address. Still have to wait till after the 15th before I can take a look at the 727 since I am presently on vacation.
Can’t wait to try it out once I get back.

For day 1 I would say it’s a good effort. I quickly blasted through my flows and got her in the air, their is some weird stuff going on but then again any one that has ever picked an aircraft up from a heavy check knows it’s not much different in real life. I do wish if they were going to do a -200 they bolt on -17 engines but that’s a personal deal haha.

Hi,

Yeah, JT8D-17 s would be great.

Guys - I have some real bad texture flickering in the cockpit. Even on a screenshot you can easily spot the problem areas:

Look for example under the gear lever - black area - it’s all wobbly and unreadable. Any idea what that is?

I guess you’re using DX12. I’ve read it’s not compatible and you must use DX11.

I see! Sorry - did not check - too busy plunging

No problem. To be honest I hope they’ll fix that, even though I use DX11.

That was it! Thanks again mate.

Ouch, not compatible with DX12? That’s not good for any of us using frame generation. Any idea if that’s a work in progress? How bad is it?

I have their EJets and one of the Tecnam’s and have no issues in DX12 so I’m wondering why this would be different.

Yikes, is that documented somewhere on their discord or something? That would be a hard no for me on purchasing till that’s fixed, I run DX12 with frame generation.

I am running Dx12 and Frame gen and not having any issues with graphics on the aircraft fwiw.

Do you by chance use TAA?

How is that even allowed??

Nah, Nvida DLSS super resolution. I literally just copied everything on my sim from island sim pilot and it works great for me.

Not sure this helps but I’m using DX12 with TAA and had no issues with the textures flickering on the 727. I only had that issue with one specific Nvidia driver version recently, not aircraft specific.

I can play it fine with DX12 and FG. I use TAA and have no flickering. This might be only a porblem for certain AA methods.
