FlightSimExpo 2021 - September 24-26 in San Diego (and online!)

North America’s enthusiast flight simulation conference returns on September 24-26, 2021. As a hybrid event, attendees can participate in-person at Town and Country Resort San Diego or online.

Gleim Aviation, Honeycomb Aeronautical, Prepar3D/Lockheed Martin, RealSimGear, SKALARKI electronics Ltd, Sky Blue Radio, SoFly, TFDi Design, Thrustmaster, VATSIM, X-Plane, and Yaw VR Ltd. are some of the more than 25 sponsors and exhibitors already confirmed to attend FlightSimExpo 2021!

For those attending in-person in San Diego, single-day registration begins at $25. The in-person component of this year’s event includes seminars from Aerosoft, RealSimGear, and X-Plane, a home cockpit construction Q&A, advice on flight dispatch from professionals, and much more. The annual X-Plane Landing Competition takes place over two days, with qualifying flights at their booth on Saturday and the finals presented on stage on Sunday morning. The exhibit hall will be open on Saturday and Sunday, September 25-26, with an add-on series of seminars called Captains’ Corner taking place on Friday.

FlightSimExpo 2021 also offers an online registration for $15. This online registration includes exclusive access to event seminars and the ability to chat and engage with participating developers throughout the weekend. In partnership with the large online networks, virtual attendees will be able to participate in a simulator fly-in to KSAN on Saturday alongside other online activities during the weekend.

Sorry we’ll miss you in-person! If you’re available, consider an online registration so you can still tune into the seminars and interact with other virtual attendees.

I’ll consider it! Thanks for providing an online option!

Just a dumb question. I don’t see Microsoft and/or Asobo, makers of a nice flight simulator, among the exhibitors yet? Or did I miss something?

Good question! We’re actively reaching out to MSFS/Asobo. The release of Microsoft Flight Simulator has had an incredible impact in our community, and we know the show won’t be the same without their participation.

For a more detailed answer and for how you can help encourage MSFS/Asobo to attend, check out the following snippet from our Co-founder Q&A video earlier this week:

Are there any guesses for when Friday’s fly-in will be? The website schedule still says TBD.

We’re working with the online networks (IVAO, PilotEdge, and VATSIM) and Infinite Flight for the fly-ins; the schedule is below. Great timing for the question by the way…we just today got the final confirmations and will be updating the website shortly!

Infinite Flight
Infinite Flight will be supporting the fly-in across their servers and streaming the fun on Twitch too! Here are the details.

IVAO

  1. Fly-In Event: September 24, 1700 - 2100 GMT:

  2. Socal VFR Ops: September 26, 0200 - 0400 GMT (this is September 25 in San Diego):

  3. San Diego Fly-Out: September 27, 1700 - 2000 GMT:

These events are shown on IVAO’s Event Calendar.

PilotEdge
PilotEdge did theirs this past Friday at KMYF and KSAN.

VATSIM
In partnership with the Los Angeles ARTCC, we have arranged:

  1. Evening at San Diego (KSAN, KMYF, KCRQ): September 24, 1700 - 2100 PDT (0000 - 0400 GMT on September 25).

  2. SoCal Sunday (KSAN, KMYF, and many more): September 26, 1700 - 2100 PDT (0000 - 0400 GMT on September 27).

I see there’s also an FNO on Friday so it’s possible the timing of that one may change slightly. If I hear an update to that effect, I’ll update this thread accordingly.

(General disclaimer: each network/simulator is managing these events on their own. Please consult the official sources for the latest information on dates and times as they are subject to change.)

In addition to these official events, we’re expecting both IVAO and VATSIM to be staffing up live from the show floor at FlightSimExpo on Saturday (1700 - 0000 GMT) and Sunday (1700 - 2200 GMT). Both will have exhibit booths at the show.

We hadn’t planned on a fly-in in MSFS multiplayer but if anyone wishes to set up something informal, provided there’s no issue with that from Microsoft, we would be happy to post those details on our website too!
