Fly Button CTD possible fix

Now this is a possible fix that worked for me so it’s not a fix that may work with everyone but deffiantly worth a shot,

BUT it comes with a warning to do it at your own risk as it involves disabling firewalls.

i trailed and error’d ton’s of things with no joy, i was getting random mid flight freezes, CTD, FPS drop at airport.

then i disabled in game overlay in steam ( even tho i run it off microsoft, ) disabled in game overlay off in geforce experience, stuck it into GAME MODE and then disabled my windows defender firewall, done 2… 1.5HR flights in a 787-10 with no issues and it run smooth as butter ! if you do attempt this please PLEASE remember to put your WINDOWS DEFENDER back on after you finish the game, i repeat put WINDOWS DEFENDER back on,

like i say it may not work for all but it worked for me so thought id share

i7 10750H
RTX 2060
16GB

GAMING LAPTOP

Also to add i have HP omen laptop which comes with fan adjuster, you can pick between cool, auto and max.
Now i have always had fans set to max with flight sim just be safe but since SU5 with crashes i was trying to rack my brains, and the one thing thats wrong with this update is the CPU temps…they rocket ! so got me thinking with fans set to max theres no limit from laptop before fans kick in cause there on all time, where as in auto it kicks the fans in at 85 degrees if i remember right so thought ill stick it in auto ( also the other half was re watching Vampire Diaries  so was been bit fan throughtfull ) and see if the fans go mad, but an hour and half in fans hardly ever kicked in, prob once or twice which shocked me but if on auto they kick in at 85 degrees to cool it down and on max the temps can get as hot as they want, so if the temps was going as high as 100 degrees ( i saw spikes of 95 degrees the other day :scream: ) then maybe it spiked a little more to the 105 degree max of my CPU ( i7 10750H ) and shut my comp down for saftey reasons, i know its an out there theroy but i my self are for any mad scientist workarounds atm so thought id add that.

Just to help other people, this did not solve my CTD at the world map issue.

Thats unfortunate mate, but like i say it may of been the fix it may not could of been a coinceidence, or it may just help some people of not others but was worth a shot

Is a viable alternative to exclude the install directory from defender scanning? I set this up when originally installing a year ago and not had too many ctds and not made any worse with su5. Did you try that unsuccessfully before disabling entirely?

no ill be honest i never tried that, i just went into the disable it completley while i play, its not ideal and if asbos or microsoft are seeing this then its a workaround for myself but something i am massively uncomftable with ( disabling security ), so i proper fix soon would be very much appreciated :+1:

Hello @jfry050386 ,

your topic was moved into the #self-service:pc-hardware category, as you give advice rather than report a specific CTD that you would need help with.
If you don’t mind, please add the “ctd” tag to your topic, so users can find it more easily.

go to windows defender settings and add exclusions to:

maybbe dumb questions but will that then disable it for flight sim but leave it on for everything else ?

Exactly mate.

thats brilliant it takes the stress off in case i forget, i mean its only a temp fix until they sort it, hopefully other people get joy with it :crossed_fingers:t3:

I’ve really been thinking this problem is due to online services or data. I had this problem several times again last night, and I was able to load in by disabling live weather and using a preset. I then enabled live weather once the flight loaded and everything was fine.

I didn’t have time to keep testing it, but maybe some of you could give it a try.

live weather is deffiantly something to look at because now you mention it, my flights last night were both on preset weather and not live weather, ill give it another go tonite on both and check the outcome

Is windows defender right to want
