FlyByWire Installer - Beware

Hi All,

As my MSFS SSD was getting full, I moved FS to a new SSD (I Drive)

I then tried to run the FlyByWire installer and it failed with a serious error.

Looking at the error information, it is looking for the original MSFS installation (D Drive).

I tried removing all entries in the Registry but still same problem.

Can anyone assist (I could not find a way to contact the FBW team).

Cheers, Bill.

The best way to reach them would be to join their discord. FlyByWire Simulations

To change the install directory:

  1. Open the installer
  2. Click on the gear icon on the lower left
  3. Change the entry for “Install Directory” in the settings menu

If that doesn’t work, check out the discord link above for support.

Thank you - WILCO.

Thank you - I will try this tomorrow.

The installer runs for a few seconds before it stops with serious error.

There is no opt file with the installer and you cannot access any ‘gear icon’

There is obviously a location that the installation refers to that has the old FS location.

Any additional help woul be appreciated.

You can try if this helps: Reported Issues - FlyByWire Simulations Guides

Have you got the latest FBW installer?

I changed my install path so it now points to the add on linker folder instead of my community folder

It’s fairly straightforward as someone said earlier , there is a cog :gear: on the left hand side, click that and you can change where the installer installs the latest version

Just a point to note , please delete any existing FBW install in your community folder otherwise it might screw it up , hope that helps

The whole reason for Installer software is to Automate what should be deleted and then replaced or just overwritten.

If Installing from GitHub don’t overwrite
 Delete then replace files.

Hi All,

Clarification,

The installer updated.

I went to run it - got serious error due to the application location being moved (before I got the tips on this thread)

I uninstalled it, tried again - same problem

Then cleaned all FBW entries in Windows Registry and deleted all folders

Downloaded latest exe file and tried again - same problem

I have no opt file and only the exe file so no ‘cog’ to make changes to.

FBW obviously places a config folder somewhere on my PC that indicates FS2020 location - I need to know where that is to change it or delete it.

Thank you in anticipation and in the future, if needed, I now the correct way to sort this issue BUT not at the moment.

Hi All,

I found the file and modified it, working now.

Thanks for your assistance.
