Flying (in real life) for the first time thanks to MSFS!

I have been simming for I don’t know how many years (I started in 2d) and while I did enjoy FSX and X-Plane, graphics did just not do it for me, thus, my hobby only got serious with the arrival of MSFS.

I mainly fly airliners, with one exception, the PA28 from Just Flight, which I don’t know why, always felt great to fly.
Last month, a friend that I met via twitch who also does streamings, offered me to fly his plane with him, and the experience was amazing (I had never flown in a PA aircraft before).

I did the take-off and flew the plane in many ocasions between Madrid and Toledo, and let me tell you something: I was absolutely blown away by how similar it is flying this plane in real life than in flight simulator, even the performance is pretty much the same (Piper Warrior II), only difference I noticed was the feedback the plane gives you is not there in a sim, but otherwise…

I will begin my PPL next year or in 2023 at the latest, so really thank you Asobo for getting me into this! If MSFS had not been released I don’t think I would have ever taken the initiative to star flying in real life

EDIT: My colleague is PilotoF22, you might now him from twitch if you are a spaniard.

Video of the experience (in spanish though):

I did it the other way around.
I learned to fly in a Piper Cherokee a few years ago. [I ran out of money so I don’t fly now]
Then this Flightsim came along and in my opinion when it comes to light aircraft its amazingly close to the real thing.

YES! Congratulation!

Sad that my spanish is so poor I can get all the inspiration of your Youtube video )

I’m sure we’re hundred here who get inspired by the Flight Simulation. I started flight simulation on a ZX81, C64, Atari ST, and then the full PC journey (FS2 ?)… and earn my PPL(A) (only VFR, leisure flights) in 2004 and now with almost 1000 hours flight time. I 99% fly GA, planes that I fly in real (C172/150, PA28, DR400, Cirrus) mainly in location that I practise for real. Quite strange!

Go! Keep going and I wish you all the best!

That’s awesome, Congratulations on your first flight IRL ! Would it be possible for you to share your flight plan ? Looks like a really nice location to discover

Well, then welcome to the sky!

It was the same for me, I started with FS98 I believe and as soon as I turned 14 I sat in a glider. The beginning of my mum‘s neck problems with her shaking her head all the time :rofl:

And I’ve just realized it was this summer 20 years ago

That is awesome! Spain is a great country to fly GA. Fairly affordable. Great destinations. Plenty of VFR weather. I did an IFR renewal many years ago in Malaga.

Well done and hope the ppl goes well.
Weather permitting I have a first lesson from a local airfield on 22 October. A birthday prsent from my daughter. As I am 80 I will not be going further. Had a flight in a spitfire in August :grinning: Youtube “I flew a spitfire”

Well done!

I did my last intro-flight in 2017 and a while after that started with my PPL. I passed the theoretical exam and logged about 28hrs on the C172. Unfortunately i had to stop for several reasons, but im planning to finish it next year, finally…

While introduction flights are pure fun, just keep in mind, even a PPL is a lot of work! The theory and the practical things require many hours of preparation, learning, repeating and you will spend lots of time besides the actual flying. Also it will cost you money, of course. Its not only fun and games, but if you are commited and have the money, you can easily do it.

I am fully aware! I am planning on doing it on 2022 or 2023 because this year I don’t have the time because of work, I will try planning ahead in order to have enough time to finish it in a year.
In Spain it is relatively affordable with some companies, around 6.000€ for the whole course.

I wish you the best to become a member of the FlyBoys Club hhh !
Enjoy your PPL, my best souvenirs on my side!
Same here, thanks to FS2004 that I decided to take my chance, PPL (LFPL, Lognes), CPL (LFPN, Toussus Le Noble) etc … A dream came true step by step… Who knows where it will lead you!

Well done! Agree with you on the JF Warrior II, they’ve done a wonderful job with it. A friend of mine owns a Piper Cherokee and, while there are differences between the models, going from the real world plane to the Warrior in the sim indeed does feel really comparable! They’ve done a great job modeling the flight dynamics. I struggled so much with landing the JF Arrow III and Warrior II until my first ride in his Cherokee, got a feel for how the real plane handled, and applied those principals to it’s virtual “son”. Great stuff!

Happy for you and best of luck on your real-life flight journey in the future! :sunglasses:

Now this is such a feel-good post! We need more of these! Fantastic stuff, very happy for you and great that you have such a good friend who took you flying!

Aviation needs new blood, as the pandemic subsides there will be a demand for CFIs & airline pilots. Go for it !

Bien Hecho!

Word of advice…
If you can afford the time off, book one month holiday and immerse yourself in training. The most cost effective way to get your PPL is to do it just like going to school. All day, every day. Either studying or flying. No chance of getting rusty or forgetting between flights. You will learn more, retain more and pay less.

Most importantly, have fun.
