Can anyone point me to a guide on how to tune the radios to fly to/from VORs and fly ILS approaches using the Cessna Citation jet? I can set the AP and fly to an airport, but only using the pop-up map. I see the NAV1 knob on the far left, but turning it does nothing.
I have no idea what 90% of the buttons and displays mean in this cockpit. Is there a simple walk through, maybe starting with the basics and then the advanced stuff like the computer and loading flight plans?
@DabullAir: Thanks for the video. I will try to load a flight plan using the instructions provided.
I also would like to do really basic navigation. e.g. take off, tune to a VOR and fly toward or away from that VOR. I can see how to change the heading selection for the VOR but not how to select the frequency. As I said in my previous post, if I turn the NAV1 and NAV2 knobs, I don’t see the frequency change. Selecting an ILS approach would be nice as well.
Are you talking about tuning a VOR freq or changing the desired course?
Just selecting the frequency.
The frequency is put in through the TUN page on the FMS. I’ve never put in a frequency with knobs in the Cj4
I found the TUN button. Entered 112.6 and hit enter. I see this:
112.6 appears at the bottom. How do I get this into the NAV1 frequency?
The tune knobs are on the extreme left of the panel:
I can click and drag on the NAV1 knob and it turns. I see no changes to the NAV1 frequency. I just want to tune a NAV radio and fly to the VOR.
After entering the frequency click on the black button next to NAV 1 (3rd from the top left)
Those knobs are the volume panel. you would use those to listen to the morse code identifier after tuning the frequency to know you’re tuned to the correct VOR
I suppose real world pilots with hundreds of hours of training love this simulator. I’m just a hack, who wants to take off, fly, and land at some airport of my choosing. This was easy in FS 2000.
I used to love FS 2000. It was much simpler, and I suppose, less realistic to most who use and love FS 2020. This thing looks really cool and I love the graphics. But I’m overwhelmed. Wish there were a FS2020 guide called “Your first flight”, with a step by step guide.
I’ve taken a few tries at using this simulator over the past year or so and seem to fail miserably every time. My expectations are either too high or maybe too low.
I’ve recently retired, so maybe I need to spend a lot of time learning how to actually fly a plane before attempting to use this simulator.
Thank you, thank you, thank you. I can now actually tune the radio! I’ll just have to play around with the FMC to get the “feel” of it. Seems so klunky.
Not necessarily, there are a lot of non pilots flying in 2024, I’d bet more non pilots than real world pilots.
Jumping into something as complex, fast and not so user friendly as the Cj4 could steepen that learning curve. When I started sim flying I couldn’t get the Lear 45 started not did I know how to properly fly it. you’ll learn as you go, we’re here to help and answer questions.
Youtube has tons of videos and guides, it does take time to watch then try yourself but they could shallow that learning curve
