Flyingiron BF109 Prop lever

Hi All,

On the EFB is says on the list to check & set pitch to 12:00. for the life of me I cant find how to adjust this. I’m assuming its via the Propeller lever but nothing shows up as that when looking around the cockpit.

I’m sure the manual says its the little trigger on the side of the throttle but this doesn’t seem to be active. I’ve tried setting the prop to Auto & manual but switch still inactive.

Thanks

There is a little meter that looks like a clock with no numbers that indicates prop pitch. The way it’s set up, the pitch can be reported as a time.

It’s confusing until you see the indicator in action. In auto as you add and pull power you’ll see it adjust pitch. In manual you are just doing things like setting a specific pitch for takeoff or whichever phase of flight.

The adjuster for prop pitch is on the side of the throttle. It’s a rocker. The adjustment is bound to prop pitch increment/decrement buttons or analog prop pitch lever. In the lever case you don’t set the prop pitch directly. It also increments and decrements instead of having a lever position mean a certain pitch. Normally the lever is in center when in manual and you adjust by bumping pitch up or down. The prop pitch rocker isn’t mouse clickable since it’s not easy to do in flight and doesn’t do anything until you put pitch control in manual.

So best to leave in Auto then?

I’ve tried the rocker switch in manual but its still not mouse clickable so not sure how your supposed to set the dial to read 12:00

I adjust the prop pitch via various bindings. Unfortunately that works not great, but at least I get it to change.
I think the bindings are called “Decrease propeller pitch” and “Increase propeller pitch” (In the section “energy management” or similar).
I never tried to to it via cockpit interaction, so I can´t help you there.

You can leave it in auto if you want to. Auto does a pretty good job of setting the proper pitch for you in most operating conditions.

But that rocker switch was intentionally not clickable. You really want to bind the pitch increment/decrement buttons to keyboard or some other button, or if you have an analog axis available bind to that. Center will be “no change” and at either extreme the pitch will increment or decrement. You’ll set the prop pitch where you want and return the pitch lever control you assign to this to its center/neutral position.

But if on XBox or don’t have keyboard or the free analog axis control available, auto is fine. It’s just how close to original operating procedures do you want to be - a personal choice. Have fun!
