Have been flight simming for 20+ years, fly helicopters probably 70% of the time, thought my trusty VKB Omni as throttle worked fine, even though simple helo things like landings were always ■■■■ for me… until…
I bought a Virpil Collective and Sharka grip and holy ■■■■ the difference is night and day, no question. Flying helos with a collective changes everything. Takeoffs, ETL and landings are a blast. Puts a smile on my face every time I lift off. Knowing what I do now, I could never go back.
Thank you for the recommendation. I asked on discord if anyone knew someone who made collective peripherals because using keyboard for that is horrendous. I will check them out
It’s a very solid piece of kit, has built in control spring to keep tension where you want it, smooth as butter moving the collective (and the helo) up and down. The level of fine control vs. my very good throttle was crazy. All the things I saw helos able to do but could not replicate in the sim has been changed - it’s as if you are just now learning to really fly helicopters…
