It’s on the development plan as MSFS 2024+ so it’s essentially confirmed as a future feature but maybe not in the first release.
It seems everyone is developing new FFB controls all at the same time. This is great news for us and I’m sure will drive support from the sim. It’s just a shame that 20 years of development was lost due to a patent troll owning the idea of FFB flight controls. The patent system working to prevent innovation, but I digress.
But I have to disagree with blaming Immersion, who did have patents, but who were never an impediment to any of the big companies. Perhaps to shed projects like the Rhino and the FFBeast, but they weren’t an impediment to pretty cheap FFB sticks from MS and Logitech in the past.
The lack of new FFB was completely in line with a lack of new flight simming equipment in general. Companies like Trustmaster, CH Products, Saitek and Logitech simply stopped innovating or abandoned flight gear completely.
I think that it was a confluence of factors, including PC’s becoming more accessible and PC gamers becoming less sophisticated on average as a result (so shooters sold way better than simming games); and MS switching their focus to consoles and abandoning games that didn’t work that well with controllers.
Then it became a downward spiral as there were no big titles pulling people in and the aging MSFS X became less and less attractive. The pretty poor hardware also didn’t pull people in.
Now we are on the upward swing again, also because of the huge good fortune to have MSFS 2020 release within the COVID period, when people were looking for indoor ways to entertain themselves. Let’s hope this swing continues for quite some time and the downswing afterwards won’t be as bad as in the past.
Can some friend please share your copy of Airforce Player 1.0.2 ? The official website is permanently taken down.
Buyed a second-hand Sidewinder FFB 2 just to know that MSFS wont support it…and we just have two third apps options, i can’t buy XpForce license now, so just left with the Airforce Player.
EDIT: Finally got the software with friend @[Baracus250], i gonna share the link here for whatever needs it too, created a backup link too, Enjoy !
It’s interesting to see different perspectives. My thoughts have always been that the drop off in new fight sims and peripherals was that the sims themselves had become less accessible. We went from the 80’s and early 90’s where flight sims were relatively simple and a $10 2 buttons joystick was more than enough, to Falcon 4.0 where the flight model was complex and the number of buttons made it difficult to really get into without proper controllers. Essentially went from a world where 75% of computer users could easily play to a world where high-end computers and expensive peripherals were desirable.
The good news for Force Feedback is that all the sticks and yokes coming out now can work off telemetry data, as long as they export good telemetry we should have decent force feedback,
Thanks .. I just tried it, but while it did a bit of stick shaking, it did not seem to be applying the forces on the Joystick when flying & trimming., like other discontinued programs did, such as FsForce or ( XpForce ?)
maybe it needs the rarer and much sort after, MS Sidewinder FF Joystick with the ORANGE light, as opposed to the Green light ??
The fact that it is using a version of simconnect.dll from Oct 2019 does not give me much confidence that all will work now in 2024 !!
XPforce XPForce | The Hangar
(No longer sure if XpForce works with MSFS 2020 SU15) ??
trying it now after over a year of not using it.
You always had difficult games and easy games, as well as realistic and more arcadey games. People have been able to play War Thunder since 2012, for example.
i could never get mine to work quite right with my FFBII. it didn’t have feedback when trimming (change of center) which to me is the most important feature
I’ve tried XPForce with my trusty Sidewinder FFB II in MSFS and it was very bad, enough that i just disabled it. It would cause the stick to do weird things, like randomly change its center position and continuously vibrate sometimes.
I use the FFB II in DCS and it’s glorious so I know how a good FFB is supposed to be. So I think a bad ffb is worse than no ffb.
I’m trying to use XPForce here with SW FFB 2, but with very bad results…
Airforce Player is giving me better results (on the FBW A320, for example)
I don’t think I know how to configure XPForce properly, but I want to use it, since it seems to be much more complete than AF Playerstrong text
