Forget about Pimax Crystal... VR1 on the way!

exactly, one lighthouse is enough for sim, mouse is fine in VR - specialy in MSFS, controller is not needed,
because PROGRAMMERS at Asobo cannot implemented it how it should be… like in XPLANE for example… sorry, but its true .

So glad something more is coming out. I wanted the Pimax but I really think it is not worth the money. Too Big and looks dated

MRTV interview with CEO and other dude:

I don’t know what it’s like in your country, but, here in the U.S., any time somebody says “Trust me”, it means, don’t trust them… #justsayin

Not judging, just letting you know how you’re coming across to people…

You do have the most accomplished snake oil salesmen in the world  #justsayin

My thoughts after watching the interview (vs. Pimax Crystal):

The PROS:

  • FoV
  • weight
  • no battery
  • mixed reality
  • open source software
  • OpenXR direct support

The CONS:

  • 4 different models, mixed reality (probably the biggest selling point) only in the most expensive one - my guess, it won’t be cheap at all
  • audio with in-ear headphones
  • requires 1 base station (for seated play - sims)
  • requires controllers and 2 base stations (for room scale games)
  • still virtual product, no availability date announced, manufacturing expected to ramp up slowly.

as for Pros… I totally agree…
Cons… 4 models and full freedom of choice is it bad?.. audio is in progress, there will be a headstrap with headphones…
1 base is not a big expense, and the precision of this method is undeniable, … it is not a virtual product, the developers are in the final stages, you will be able to reserve the headset at the end of September, the rest of the information will be available soon.

Any word on whether it will support inside out tracking in the future?

We will see when the price for the version supporting augmented reality will be announced.
If I understand correctly you must buy the model you choose, there will be no option to start with the cheaper option and upgrade.

We will see when it will be available, not even a prototype was shown yet. I wonder if this component will be available as upgrade.

1 base station - it’s subjective if the expense is big or small, if you want to buy this headset you must add to the price
If it will be your first headset, no matter how much sim-oriented you are, I can’t imagine not playing Half Life Alyx, so you must calculate also the 2nd base station and 2 controllers, and you must buy them from the separate vendor. If you are mostly simmer and only want to play HLA or Beat Saber occasionally (not pro level) the inside out tracking remains adequate and requires no additional expenses.
Availability of Lighthouse tracking is definitely a pro, lack of inside out tracking (even in the most expensive model equipped with the virtual reality cameras) is undeniably a con.

We will see when the prices will be announced…

Great to see your enthusiasm, but each product has pros and cons, as we all have different budgets and needs. Are you affiliated to the manufacturer?

I was a bit disappointed with the MRTV interview - more than an hour of talking heads, no life demo of the features (like the mixed reality with the cameras actually feeding the real world image). This is why I consider the product still as the virtual one.

P.S.
Greetings from EPWS - if I understand your nick correctly

Nothing was mentioned during the interview.

When you’re looking at anything above a Quest 2 expense becomes ‘relative’ very quickly. It’s simply a question of how important immersion is to you. I spent a year on the waiting list for a Rhino FFB stick, wondering the whole time if it would be worth it… and it absolutely proved to be, and then some. The AMA with Sebastian was very interesting ( if a bit laggy unfortunately, too much cutting off and crosstalk) but I didn’t hear any mention of motion reprojection or software at all, which is kind of surprising. This is clearly a sim oriented headset first and foremost, and very few (flying) sims can run at 90 fps native on top current hardware, and not even near future hardware most likely. Racing sims always fare better.

I checked their discord and the mighty Mbucchia has asked about exactly that, but there are no responses yet that I can see. Hopefully they have a plan for it.

As for dependence on Valve’s base stations, that’s kind of a gamble. Same issue Pimax faced with the Crystal I think. I would guess that the vast majority of those looking to buy a Somnium today are coming from a Reverb G2 or Quest 2, and won’t have any base stations.

That’s the reason I got one Reverb G2 (v1) also because of VR-FlightsimGuy review, I even Preordered a set :face_with_spiral_eyes: It looks Good in VR, but the sweetspot was NOT GOOD…:smirking_face: I have 62mm IPD AND wear Prescription Glasses(near-sighted) another costly upgrade from VR-Optican yiikess

And traded in my 3080 for a 3090 in the height of pandemics, ouch what DUMB Decission THAT WAS… 2400ish Euros .. waay to expensive ONLY for that 24GB RAM, I only had a old computer with a 780-TITAN(The original Titan, which I purchased used..)

If I had a Timemachine I would ZOOM BACK and reverse that 3090 purchase and would have cancelled my G2 preorder… also.. I guess you live and learn(or atleast TRY and learn from it )

The tech is intriguing, but with my
motion-sickness  :face_vomiting: I’m not so sure VR is for me???
I really followd EVERY SUGESTION to take it gradually and a lot of pauses..

I gave up for now and since “I could not return to small pancake-wiew monitor” I researched and purchased LG 55"INCH Oled C1 panel (C2 Software edition) Oled is fantastic for those who are in the the same sutuation as me..

I went from a 32 inch 2560x1440p VA-panel to LG-OLED this sim on a 4K OLED looks Fantasticly GREAT… :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Trouble is I want/desire 3x 55" for wraparound “dang VR” made 2D obsolete at a normal size screen…
(I am NOT gonna join a side though in the VR vs NON-VR fights because I understand those VR guys who like it…)

It Really was a eye opener LITTERALLY, I almost fell out of my chair/seat, VERTIGO and Life-sized objects I thought what in devils name is this VOODOO!!!???
 :face_with_spiral_eyes: :face_with_crossed_out_eyes: :scream: :exploding_head:

The Oculus Quest III was also announced this weekend.

I will have to get a Quest 3 until all the new VR headsets rolls out in 2024. It’s a very big investment for one game. It’s about quality and cost for me.
Sometimes the Quality is what cost the most.

I’m hoping for big things from the Quest 2. Zuckerberg has thrown billions at VR since the Quest 2, 3 years ago.

I know the Quest 3 will be good and supported. However, I want something that is just for PC so I can get the most out of it . I will only use it for MSFS. What VR headset are you thinking of getting?

I’m waiting to see how the Quest 3 is. I’m hoping it will be better than the HP Reverb G2 which everyone says is the best mid-market headset at the moment. I’m not prepared to pay for one of the top-end headsets yet.

It will be better in some ways (especially lenses) but worse in others. Most notably it will give you compressed visuals. After trying both the Pico 4 and Quest Pro, I’m never doing that again. Both made me go back to the G2 (and then Aero).

Many people will disagree and that’s fine, everyone is different. But I’m not using another compression-based HMD for MSFS unless there is some kind of radical breakthrough in streaming tech lol.

YUPP …It’s bitten me hard!! :grimacing:
I will be a bit more careful with my investments from now on, preorders are really not worth IT..:astonished_face::slightly_frowning_face:
