3D Cockpit Modeling: For those passionate about flight and racing simulations, our system offers the ability to model and integrate your working space (cockpit) directly into the VR scene. Combined with hand masking and hand tracking, users can operate their virtual plane or car with unparalleled realism. This feature bridges the gap between augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR), fully harnessing the capabilities of the Somnium VR1. This is something what VRgineers have been perfecting for years, and you will get it as part of Somnium VR1 software.
Yes mixing AR/XR will be for cockpit builders best feature for sure.
This new headset will delivier HIGH END CLASS for virtual reality, better than Aero, and Crystal, just trust me.
and is MADE IN UE ! - no more problem with support, etc like with PIMAX
I do not want to spoil the party so I will only state that Sebastian (MRTV guy) was once a big advocate of HP Reverb’s G2 “edge to edge” clarity which, once the G2 got sold to customers, quickly proved totally misleading and simply not true.
He is a great sales guy, though so expect a lot of superlatives throughout the show.
One spec I would prefer is to have a 72Hz mode which gives performance in MSFS/DCS a few more milliseconds even for the 7800X3D/4090 ( and maybe for us 3080ti) folks to get a smoother update.
It’s looking really good so far, and it seems like they’ve passed most of the filters that killed off the Decagear.
I’m most curious to see how the software is though and what their reprojection is like. So far only Oculus, WMR ( entirely thanks to Matthieu Bucchianeri ) and Varjo do that really well. Pimax used to but they’ve turned it into a hot mess on the Crystal, almost unusable in its current state sadly.
Really hope they succeed, and if reprojection is solid I’m in.
YES, exactly, I don’t understand why no one except Meta and BB are offering 72hz anymore. I tried raising this point iwith Varjo and Pimax but they didn’t care at all. It’s so ridiculous selling sim-focused headsets such as these and forcing 90hz minimum. Even with the best hardware you can curently buy you can’t run MSFS at native 90 hz/fps.
At least the VR1 has 120hz, so should be able to lock to 60fps for a much smoother experience than the 45fps that 90hz forces us to use.
Glad it works for you, I cant use reprojection, it’s been terrible every single time I’ve tried it. Any smoothness gains are negated by the wibbly-wobbly artifacts/distortions, which are beyond immersion breaking for me.
That used to be the case in the past even with my RTX 4090. I have to run reprojection using OpenXR on my Reverb G2 as I want it totally smooth panning my head across the cockpit side to side, the slightest judder which you get on anything less than 90 fps just doesn’t cut it for me.
The RTX 4090 can achieve a solid 45 fps in most areas and with reprojection and that pretty much eliminates artifacting, occasionally you get in on the wing bit rarely and most of the time you wouldn’t know it was using reprojection.
The how much also needs Lighthouse tracking and controllers to be included in the price, I think that’s an extra 600 dollars. This for me was why the Pimax Crystal was so appealing, not so much it cost more but just the extra hassle of setting this up.
Personally my next headset will be at the Sommnium VR 1 level but with a formfactor closer to the Quest 3 or even Quest Pro. To be honest I’ll probably wait for the Quest 4 Pro when it comes out but if the hassle to buy lighthouses is worth it then maybe I’ll get this instead.
Regarding the lighthouses and controllers, you only really need a single lighthouse if all you want to do is sims. Working great for me with an Aero. Bout 100 on ebay for 2.0 Lighthouse
