How much ram do you have?
16 g DDR4 3200
Do you have a Windows Managed, or a custom size page file?
what is that?
I have this too on the SU8 Beta, but I think since World Update Australia actually. Cruise seems to be more stuttering than descent. And then close to- or on the ground again its stutters. …I used to enjoy such a smooth ride with most on ultra and some on high. I hope they can fix this prior to SU8 release instead of waiting on SU9 for it.
What a page file (also known as virtual memory) is, is a spot where items that need to be put in ram are placed, when the ram is full.
Having a Windows managed file slows the PC down because it has to find that space on your hard drive and move files around to get that space together to fit the size of the files it needs to put in that spot.
That doesn’t affect 95% of the day to day operations, but sims like this will bog down and stutter due to the amount and size of the files used by the sim.
By making a manual file, you already have that space allocated, and that speeds up the PC a lot.
Bear in mind, this will prevent this area of your hard drive from storing normal files, as you are telling the PC to only use it for paging purposes.
You can PM me anytime if you want to try this, and I’ll help you through it.
thanks for your help a pm you something
Very interesting. At 0:55 suddenly the “Manipulators” go back to normal.
Your memory usage is very low so i don’t think the problem is on your end.
It’s either the FBW or this issue:
@TheSevenflyer
Thanks A LOT! I just did a quick test over Madrid with the FBW and I was all back at smooooth again.
I never bothered manipulating the pagefile manually as I had bought a new powerful pc for MSFS and it’s such an old trick with regards to modern machines. But creating a page file between 24 and 48 GB just put me right back at 30 frames steady, doing acrobatics with the FBW over the city center. Haha.
I hope this trick will remain in places during later phases of flight. I’ll try to report back on it later. So far so (very) good. Yay you!
This problem is common. And the location and probability of each player are different. When I use VR to switch to 2D, the frame count will drop to only 1~5FPS. It takes a few seconds to return to normal state. … and at the same time I also found that this situation usually occurs when the screen window is rotated or moved. The same only needs to wait for a few seconds and it will return to normal… As long as you don’t switch the perspective or move the window quickly, this is rarely the case will happen.
that’s happen to me at every flight…little
bit less wih the windows management…but the fps in high altitude is not very good…
Hi
i solved my problem by doing a fresh install of windows and of the game.
thanks all for your help
This is very worrying, imagine having to perform a clean install of Windows and MSFS2020 every update
Who has to do that?
I’ve seen lots that need to do so once in a while, I haven’t noticed any that have to do it every update.
I’m not saying that there is someone who does this all the time, I’m saying that it would be bad if it had to be done. But I always see someone who managed to solve their problems doing this, a clean install after some update (once).
What I’ve been seeing is that if there are any issues in the Window’s system at all, this sim won’t run well, if at all.
The only solution seems to be a reset of Window’s and then a reinstall of the sim.
The good news about that, is that in almost all cases (notice I said almost), after this is done the sim works really well.
I’ve just encountered this same problem - 256 GB of RAM, 3080Ti - climb in A32NX through 30,700ft fps drop from pegged 30fps through 17fps then heading lower. Drop back below 30,700ft and fps comes back up again. I repeated this time and time again. When fps starts dropping it swaps from GPU limited to CPU limited. If you QUIT the flight whilst it is exhibiting low fps it takes forever to quit (in fact I gave up and pulled Alt F4 on it).
This was totally repeatable. I turned AI traffic off and other extensions off. Still dropped at that altitude.
I then tried your page file increase technique (mine was originally 9,728MB courtesy of Windows 11 (aside: maybe by the time they release Windows 12, they will have sorted out the total car crash that version 11 is?) bumped to your suggested range 24-48Gb.
Then I restarted, took off from Denver (high airport to save time ) then “set the controls for the heart of the sun”… well, the sky. Expedited climb to FL450 and then left it there. Where it stayed for 1 hour and 16 minutes… and then it CTD’d. Strikes me that SU9 has memory leak problem(s) but thanks for the tip on virtual page size, at least it managed to run longer than 20 minutes!
The “memory leak” is my belief as well.
Keeping fingers crossed that their attempts find the bottom of the issue are successful!
Let’s hope so!!! This thing people have with flight duration being an issue (and here altitude) really does Look like a memory leak. Interestingly I had mistakenly had AI traffic on, on my last report when I thought it was off. I just turned it OFF (for real ) and was able to fly for 2 hours 45 minutes no problem. I’m now kicking off another test with AI traffic ON to see what happens… I wonder if the leak is something to do with traffic… I will report back!!!
