FPS Drop When Using ATC PopUp on Second Monitor

Hi everyone,

I’m experiencing a significant FPS drop when I move the ATC chat (or other cockpit displays) to a second monitor as a Pop-Up. My main monitor runs MSFS in 2K, and the second monitor is Full HD. When I use the PopUp on the second screen, I lose around 10 FPS. I’ve tried both Full HD and upscaling the second monitor to 2K, but the FPS drop remains the same. Without the Pop-Ups, the sim runs okay at around 35 FPS on Ultra settings.

Here’s my setup:

  • Ryzen 7 7800X3D
  • 32 GB RAM
  • RTX 4060
  • TUF Gaming B650 Motherboard

Since the main thread seems to be the limiting factor for me, I’ve already tried reducing all CPU-heavy processes as much as possible. AI Traffic Density, Glass Cockpit refresh rate, and all that stuff. I’m curious because the CPU is usually really good but seems to be the limiting factor on my setup, and I don’t know why.

  • Nvidia settings according to several Youtube Videos
  • BIOS newest update
  • DX11 (DX12 has a performance loss for me)

I know there are others experiencing similar issues, but is there a common workaround I did not find yet? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Edit: I use DLSS, TAA has a significant performance loss for me. V-Sync does not change anything so it is turned off.

Solution:

I found a solution in another forum that worked for me and others facing the same issue. If you’re experiencing this, check if your monitor supports G-Sync (or FreeSync/Adaptive Sync). If it does, open the NVIDIA Control Panel and locate the G-Sync settings. You’ll likely see it enabled for fullscreen only. Change this setting to enable G-Sync for both fullscreen and windowed mode. After making this adjustment, you should no longer experience any FPS drops when using pop-out screens.

I hope this helps.
