FPS Drops After Flights and Doesn’t Recover even in menu

Hi everyone!

I’ve recently upgraded to a new high-end setup and I’m trying to understand a few performance-related things in MSFS 2024. After switching to an AMD 9950X3D and RTX 5090, I configured the system so that MSFS runs only on the CCD cores with 3D V-Cache. Overall, things are working well, but I’ve noticed another strange problem on my new setup and wanted to see if anyone else is experiencing the same thing. I am in SU3 final.

At the start of a flight, performance is excellent:

• FPS is around 100 (limited in Nvidia control panel)

• Latency averages between 10 and 25 ms

• Settings are TAA + DLSS Frame Generation, mostly Ultra/High-End

• HAGS enabled, V-Sync disabled

But after a flight — especially when approaching a large airport — FPS suddenly drops by about 40–50%, for example from 100 down to 50–60 or more with traffic.

The weird part is that even after I land and end the flight, going back to the main menu, FPS stays low still. The only way to restore normal FPS is to completely restart MSFS, so I can’t do another flight from the last point.

Neither CPU nor GPU are fully loaded when this happens, so it doesn’t seem like a hardware bottleneck. It feels more like a memory leak or some internal issue within MSFS 2024.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a known issue? And are there any workarounds to avoid restarting the simulator after every long flight?

Thanks a lot for any advice or insights!

A long time ago, during a long-haul flight, I was downloading in the content manager. After several hours of flight, the RAM usage was extremely high while the CPU and GPU usage were very low. Only after restarting MSFS2020 did it return to normal.

It is a big known issue since many beta updates and it got shipped with final SU3 without fixing it.

It is a mainthread issue.
