Anyone actually tried that?
I saw a video yesterday where it was advertised as the most hidden and most effective tweak to get way better fps.
According to that guy (it’s in german btw) it’s a workaround for a windows bug with fullscreen optimization, since it’s bugged, it’s doin the opposite apparently.
Never read or heard about this, just curious if some of you guys know if there’s something to it.
I tried btw, but didn’t gain any fps at all. So I think it’s just blahblah. But who knows.
link? seems interesting and understandable
wenn ich denn mal meine restlichen 20 gb runtergeladen hab probier ichs mal
ENG: when i finished downloading the lef 20gb ill test that
So far so good, but how the hell can I get acess to the WindowsApps Folder?
Need a step by step guide please
thats why i bough steam edition
maybe try this
Thanks, but i got it already. #MicroComplicatedSoft
I´m still on the Game pass, but will switch over to steam as well. Makes life much more easyer
I’d prefer the ms store version. Too much trouble on steam regarding updates, add-ons and repairing files.
The ms store version works fine in that regards once you figured the weird file structure out.
And also, you don’t additionally have to run the steam launcher in the background. Saves precious resources!
Oookay, so first of all thanks to Andi! Good find mate.
I can´t really tell if this tweak increases my FPS. Because I´ve capped mine to 30, BUT I noticed a very nice boost on my frametimes! Cool, the sim runs far more smoother now.
Especially on cloudy weather, wich always gaves my poor RX580 Nitro a hard hit.
Try it out guys, your sim will not explode
Cool, will try it out.
Don’t speak enough german to understand him. How do you turn full screen optimisation off?
Right-click on the executable, Properties, Compatibility tab
i try to write a tutorial now
first of all locate the flight simulator .exe
then go rightclick on it and choose properties
lookout for the compatibility tab and make a check mark on deactivate fullscreen optimization the click apply and ok
close the window and start the sim
Danke schön
Ok, I’ll give it another try then later!
But how will we know if that windows bug has eventually been fixed and the optimization is working properly? By that time maybe I forgot I ever did check that box and blame Microsoft and/or Asobo for getting bad fps again…
I doubt we’ll find anything about this in any windows 10 patch notes to be honest
I don’t know if this will work but you can try editing the registry value directly where the Application Compatibility settings are being saved.
Click Windows Start, type the following and press enter in order to open the Registry Editor:
regedit.exe
- Find the full path to the .exe from this registry entry:
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\FlightSimulator.exe
- double click the (Default) key then copy the full path. It is the string shown in the “Value Data” field. The value should be something like:
C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_1.8.3.0_x64__#############\FlightSimulator.exe
-
Paste the copied full path in a new notepad text file or anywhere else you can retrieve later.
-
Locate the following registry entry:
Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\Layers
-
Create a new string key (it will have the type REG_SZ)
-
For the key name, paste the full path to FlightSimulator.exe you’ve copied/pasted in steps 2 and 3.
-
For the key value, copy/paste the following:
~ DISABLEDXMAXIMIZEDWINDOWEDMODE
When you’re using the Application Compatibility tab, this is the registry key which should be created.
[update] I’ve just tried with and without and there is no difference to me. This might be because the registry change is not working for this specific title and it would be great if someone who has managed to change the setting using the GUI can confirm the registry key/value I’ve indicated above is the one changing on his system. But I believe the main reason it doesn’t make any difference is just because the application is never running in full screen but in borderless window mode instead. Back in time, this compatibility setting has been added to help older full screen Direct X games working better in Windows because when in true full screen they are running in an “exclusive” mode. Since Windows Vista the compositor has changed and there is no longer any “exclusive” mode like before in Win10.
Back from my second test flight. This is definitely not a placebo and the first tweak that really helped me to have a better overall performance.
But now I have to set me a reminder to reverse these settings, if Microsoft gets the full screen optimization right…on day in a far, far future
that helped to improve fps too but my fps are a bit more but it did not fixed my ctds =(
I tried that setting before and after last patch with no fps results here. But: due to render scaling in my msfs graphics-settings (native monitor resolution is 4500x3000 but my gpu is poor so I have to scale it down) the full screen optimization changed the developer mode menu positions and size. So full screen optimization being disabled helped with that .
