FPS performance - VRAM bug?

Lower your settings. You are rendering at 4k and you are using to much vram. Lower your texture resolution and disable resizalble bar.

Personally I just run disk cleanup to clean the shaders. It’s a good idea to run this anyways and click on Clean Up System Files to clean those files as well.

Just read my latest answer. I lowered the texture resolution and the render resolution. Still FPS problems.

A380 8K Is vram killer at any sim

After a clean install of the sim and on the latest SU2 beta, I have been getting favourable performance. Was getting 80-90 FPS in JFK with the ini A330, 120FPS in the air all the way to Ireland, and then around 70-80 FPS in EIDW (MK Studios) HOWEVER There is still the major issue of losing massive amounts for frames just before touching down on the runway and also when taking off from the runway. See the video to get a better understanding.

I was getting 70 FPS, but as soon as the wheels get close to the ground, it goes to 20, and stays low until the plane comes to a complete stop. This also happens when taking off. Once the plane reaches 40 knots, the frames drop until the plane is off the ground. Personally, for me, if this can be fixed, I would be most happy. Ignore how bad the landing is, focus on the performance

The point is, once the overspill occurs in FS2024 the sim’s memory [mis]-management cannot recover. However in FS2020 it does.

Just think – if Asobo could be bothered to solve this one thing, then 90% of all the other things being talked about in this thread wouldn’t be necessary.

Here’s the thing, they don’t know that this is happening, curiously we found out just by using task manager, but they can’t figure it out themselves with all their resources.

I made some test last weekend, unfortunately the memory issue doesn’t improved at all, maybe even worse than before. I still get maxed out vram, independent from the graphics settings. Tried LFMN, LHBP, EDDB v3. Fenix A320 / Ini A350.

4K downscaled as I use it in 2020 as well, 2K native, DLSS, TAA, FG ON-OFF, High texture res, Low texture res. It’s just doesn’t matter. My vram always go way beyond 12GB, sometimes it’s maxing out nearly 16-17GB which causing extreme stutter and negative fps. Unflyable. But even on a total autogen airport, with addon aircraft, no traffic I still get “red” vram usage, or even “Peaked over retail budget” message. Since SU2 the “GPU resources” message pops up every second like a website ad that I won an iPhone Pro Max.

I just went back to 2020, there I can fly without to run 5958 benchmark/settings/cfg modification to be able to run the sim at least 30 fps.

May I not have the most powerful rig on the planet, but it’s quite good PC:
I7-13700F
32GB DDR5
4070

I think my expectations are not too high if I want to run this sim on downscaled 4K, on High settings, with RT shadows off at least at stable 35-40fps with addons, I don’t aim for 60 or 100+. But currently under 2024 performance wise I feel my PC like it’s from 2010, which is a bit ridiculous.

I’m afraid that for us, who doesn’t own at least a 16GB vram card and for some reason couldn’t afford to upgrade it, will be unable to enjoy 2024 at least with 3rd party addons at all. Imo there’s no chance that Asobo could lower the vram usage to this extent, maybe under 10GB.

I posted this in the thread in the beta section as well, disappointing.

3080ti driver version 572.70
5800x3d
32GB RAM

I’m getting higher VRAM usage in SU2 VS SU1 in the same scenarios. I tested The Ini a350, default A330, and the Fenix A321 at a handcrafted Gaya KJFK and the Ini EGLL.

Settings, weather, and time of day were the same in all scenarios. No traffic, textures on medium, no RT shadows, buildings/trees/rocks/grass a mix of low and medium, clouds high, DLSS ‘Auto’ and framegen on. Resize BAR was also off as I found that helped me save several hundred MB of VRAM. All tests were done with aircraft ready to go on the runway.

SU1 KJFK
A350: 7.4GB
A330: 6.6GB
A321: 7.6 GB

SU2 KJFK
A350: 7.7 GB
A330: 7.5 GB
A321: 8.5 GB

SU1 EGLL
A350: 7.0 GB
A330: 6.2 GB
A321: 7.6 GB

SU2 EGLL
A350: 7.5 GB
A330: 6.9 GB
A321: 8.7 GB

So in some cases a couple hundred MB increase, in others almost a GB extra used in the same scenarios.

Having this persistent issue fixed will have major impacts for both Asobo and us. This thread is probably one of the longest and the most elaborated bug reports. What concerns us is that this SU 2 “is the best fix they can do” to address VRAM issue.

Anyway in 2020 the issue was the same, if you switch to DX12 you will see that both ram/vram will be skyrocketing, but maybe not as much in 2024, but it will much higher than DX11.

Since the bad DX12 implementation in 2020 we had a “shelter” which was the DX11. Therefore a lot of flightsimmer saved by it. In 2020 DX12 has the same issues, but it given with the “Beta” title. Now in 2024 it’s not in Beta anymore (at least it not shown) but every 2020 DX12 issue were bring to the new MSFS as well. But now, there’s no other option, just DX12 and a lot of simmer who saved by DX11 now facing with these serious issues which was still presented in 2020 but nobody cared about. Asobo as well. Now the bad implementation show it’s teeth and they need to find ways to reduce the memory usage, because currently it’s unplayable for a lot of us.

Imo there will be no significant fix with SU2, it will take a few more SU to be totally fixed. If they could fix it at all. Look, it’s 17th April and it’s running worse than SU1, and it’s not purely because the background logging. Something went wrong, again.

Well, if

“SU 2 is the best fix they can do to address VRAM issue.”

then I think I uninstall 2024 and stay with 2020 for a very long time, lol.

Yeah but not everyone owns MSFS2020. Otherwise i would have done the same. Now i own MSFS2024 for like 60€ and its pretty much unusable. Only option is to wait

It takes MSFS2020 until 2024 to come as far as it is now.
So i think that you have to wait another 3 years.

Update on this topic:
Due to financial problems of my retailer, i have canceled the purchase of a completely new rig for the time being. Was a bit of a pain, but i luckily got my money back :D. Instead i upgraded my current rig with a 5060 TI 16GB and 64GB RAM.
I’m quite happy so far. Even at Aerosofts frankfurt with Inibuilds A350, the debug tool showed a maximum VRAM usage of 11/ ≈14.8 GB. Resolution: 2560x1440p, TAA, texture resolution: High, 2x FG enabled, TLOD and OLOD at 100. I’m not on the SU2 beta. 16GB VRAM and 64GB RAM are a blessing! :D.I’ll do further tests and see if it stays that way.

NVidia just released a new driver for 50xx series cards who solve multiple problems… may be it will help a lot with msfs 2024 ?

If you guys use SU2 Beta there is a small trick to save some 100mb of VRAM.
Go into User.Cfg and enter MaxFramerate to 30.
Then turn on Frame Gen.

Now youre GPU renders only 30 Frames per Second meanwhile you get a smooth Performance with AMD FrameGen enabled.

Before i capped the Frames at 60FPS in Nvidia Control Panel and then turned on Frame Gen.
Now you can cap Frames at 30FPS in User.Cfg and use FrameGen to create 60FPS.

This saves a bit of VRAM. Tutorial: https://youtu.be/651r5ZtJOuE?si=wHeOqMFxfPiQkYXE

It’s worth mentioning this only saves VRAM if you were already using Frame gen. The best thing for VRAM is still not using frame generation.

I did exactly this and was previously doing the same thing you mentioned. REALLY happy with the results
