Probably depends on which GPU assets get punted to shared RAM. It’s unlikely to be equally impactful for all of them, so you may get lucky sometimes and unlucky others. And it may change as you fly around.
Only if you keep the VRAM under control can you prevent the issue. At least, I’ve not personally experienced, and have seen no strong evidence on this forum, of sudden large FPS loss that was not correlating with VRAM overcommit.
Same problem here, I try with DLSS, but it can cause me to drop my FPS, I only fly with the Fenix.
I don’t know if it’s the night lighting that makes FS slow down, I haven’t tried it during the day ?
This reminds me of the bug that existed a long time ago on P3D with dynamic night lighting.
I’ve just tried a flight from EGLC to EGNM (ORBXv2) in the TBM930.
The frames were good to start with, got even better at FL200 then as I descended into Leeds, back down to single digit frames due to this bug, shared Vram just kept climbing.
I really do hope they solve this issue quickly, I’m having to nerf the settings just to get to fly and it’s looking worse than ever with reduced settings.
This is getting sooooo annoying. Short hop from MAD to BIO in the fenix a321. Barely 20 FPS on the ground, in the air it is suddenly fine with like 40+ and on landing back to 20 and lower. Almost all VRAM gone although I have low to medium settings.
Try Off-screen terrain pre-caching to Low, Texture Resolution to medium. It may help tide you over until some optimisation fixes come.
I also have the 3070, texture res and pre-caching seem to cripple it. Black Friday had me tempted… but I’m just holding firm until I know what these fixes, this week and next do.
I do have texture res to low even and pre-caching to medium. It worked somehow for some other flights in the fenix the other day but today absolutely no joy with 20 fps.
if you can accept the loss in quality (and i know that’s a big if) rendering at a lower screen resolution also works good to save vram, in any of its three flavors (all in game)
Do you have the same issue if you follow the OP’s steps to reproduce it?
• Yes
Provide extra information to complete the original description of the issue:
• As reported, Sim FPS starts off at ~40 or more, then after a few min, Dropps to <10. System performance show RAM is maxed, CPU threads limited etc. Ending flight and restarting resets the sim. Indicative of a memory leak. This is especially problematic for high fidelity airports like Flightbeams SFO.
Important to note that the same airport is not an issue in version 2020.
If relevant, provide additional screenshots/video:
•
if you mean the off screen precache,
in 2020 setting it to low caused stutter and objects popping in when you look to the side
in 2024 it causes just objects popping in, but no stutters, or at least markedly reduced stutters
Here’s more proof – see my main VRAM usage is only 4.2GB of 6GB.
But look at the shared RAM – that’s showing 4.2 GB!
The VRAM / shared RAM memory management is clearly messed up.
Does the issue still persist after today’s update (02/12/24) - YES. Just landed at Cologne in the A310 and it was a complete slideshow upon touchdown. Single digit FPS again. Went back to the main menu and the sim has frozen/crashed. Have to use task manager to quit.
Disappointing to not see this addressed in today’s update/patch.
I also have major issues with vram. I’m using a 3090 at 1440p and in all flight my vram goes through the roof and I’m unable to continue the flight. Just terrible.
