A couple of months ago, I got a 4070 TI.
I realized (too late), that even Asobo fixes or make optimizations for VRAM, if I want to use everything highres I 12GB (and even 16GB) may be not enough.
So I’m going to buy a 7900 XTX.
Question is, as I’m currently almost doubling FPS with DLSS frame generation, I don’t want to lose this feature with AMD.
I understand FSR 3.1 frame generation is not yet native but it can be used anyway right ? And big question, is comparable the FPS increase with DLSS FG ?
That’s correct - you can easily turn on AMD’s frame generation via their Adrenalin software. You can also verify it’s working via the Adrenalin software via a green checkmark next to the parameter. You can also tell its working with the Adrenalin screen overlay which will actually show the doubled frame rate (along with many other useful stats like gpu/cpu temps etc).
While I don’t have an Nvidia gpu, I’m assuming a few fps will be lost to overhead and the resulting fps is doubled. AMD’s frame gen works the same in that sense. AMD’s dlss equivalent is called FSR2 which some think it’s not as good as dlss. I turn on HDR10 which negates the blurriness FSR2 (or dlss) can introduce.
For my 7900xtx I set a parameter called Radeon Chill in the Adrenalin software to lock my fps at 60 which can easily be maintained in the sim and turn on frame gen to double it to 120fps which then matches my monitors refresh rate. Therefore, no wasted frames dropped, very smooth and no loud fans or excessive heat.
I love the 24GB of vram which I’ve seen utilization over 22GB in extremely detailed cities/airports. I never get any stuttering due to vram overrun in 4k HDR10 with everything on ultra.
Great I’m thinking about selling my 4080 Super, but is the frame gen you’re turning on driver level (fluid motion Frames) or actual FSR frame gen? as they are two separate thing
I use AFMF, but I do not use FSR as I run my setup at 4K native, so you can have them be mutually exclusive.
I’m already with a 7900 XT.
I tried everything for frame generation , AFMF, unofficial FSR 3.1 and Loseless Scaling.
AFMF was really bad for me, unoficial FSR 3 with optiscaler is good, very smooth, but I prefer Loseless Scaling. Locked FPS to 25 with RTSS, then LS with X3 reaching 75 fps, very few glitches, very smooth and less GPU usage/power consumption.
I turn on AFMF at the Adrenalin driver level and turn on FSR2 in the sim. As @NixonRedgrave mentioned they are mutually exclusive.
