Guys, there is an option in the Graphic settings to limit the frame rate to 50% or 33% of my monitor refresh rate. This setting doesn’t have any effect for me. Is this normal ?
I have around 100fps right now which is great, but my GPU is pedalling at 100% all the time. So, I would like to see if I can reduce my fps by 50% (I would still be happy with 50fps obviously) so long as there is meaningful reduction in GPU usage. But this frame rate limiter setting doesn’t work.
Any idea ?
(I have tried to reduce the refresh rate of my monitor to 60Hz. Afterburner still shows 100% GPU usage. I believe the sim is still working to generate the 100fps, while displaying only 60 in the end. So basically no improvement).
Which gpu do you have? The sims vsync parameter works great for AMD cards but not so great with Nvidia cards. Also, what monitor/TV are you using?
I forgot to post my specs, sorry about that. Here we go:
ASUS ROG STRIX Z690E
ASUS ROG STRIX 3080
Intel i7 12700K
32GB RAM DDR5
Monitor: M32UC (144Mhz, run the sim in 4K)
it works for nvidia cards. you need to make sure that in the nvidia control panel, vsync is set to “let the 3d application decide”.
If vsync is ON in the control panel, it will over-ride the in game setting.
As a side note, if you just go to the first section of the control panel and choose “let the 3d application decide” instead of “use the advanced 3d image settings”, it will automatically set this correctly (and no matter how many youtube videos claim to have the “best settings 2024”, I find that in every game I play, simply setting the first page to “let the application decide” gives best results).

@GlennyPlays Thank you for the suggestion.
I went to the Nvidia control panel, set vsync to Let the 3D Application Decide, rebooted my PC. Then reopened the Nvidia control panel to make sure the change had been applied. Then started the sim.
Same. This didn’t solve the issue.
Since my alpha testing in 2020 I have limited the FPS with the Nvidia control panel because worked better than the simulator Vsync.
But after SU15 the in sim Vsync limiter works better than the control panel limiter.
I have a 1080.
Sounds strange that your Vsync is not working. Try to limit with the control panel.

As a matter of fact I just tried a moment ago, and using the frame rate limiter of the Nvidia control panel works. I limited it to 50fps. My GPU now works at 80%, with a temperature of 70c (instead of 80c before). I think this will do.

Not sure if other settings can interfere with this? perhaps something like gsync enabled? or does having frame gen enabled cause vsync to be ignored?
just trying to think or other things that could potentially affect the way that frames are rendered.
You could also try using a 3rd party frame limiter, such as that which is included in rivatuner?
Just sharing my method:
- In NVCP Global Settings Tab - ‘Max Frame Rate’ = OFF
- In NVCP Global Settings Tab - ‘Vertical Sync’ - Use 3D Application Settings.
- In NVCP Program Settings Tab - ‘Max Frame Frame Rate’ = Use Global Setting
- In NVCP Program Settings Tab - ‘Vertical Sync’ = Use Global Setting
- In the sim, vSync is OFF.
I installed Riva Statistics Server, and use it to set a frame rate limit.
I never get sync or screen tearing issues on my 144Hz 4K monitor, and RSS limits the maximum frame rate very well.
Ok.
What is the benefit of this vs using the frame rate limiter in the Nvidia Control Panel ?
Go to options > general options> graphics
Turn off Nidia DLSS Frame Generation - apply and save
I did wonder if that could affect it. But reading the posts again, they are using a 3080, so that option won’t even be there i think?
@TenPatrol thanks for the suggestion, no no you were right, disabling Nvidia DLSS Frame Generation did finally allow me to lower the fps via the sim’s sliders, so that was indeed the problem.
This however doesn’t work as well as leaving frame generation On and limiting the frame rate in nNvdia’s Control Center. This is because I obviously lose the (huge in my case) fps boost of frame generation.
You’re very welcome
Fly safe.
btw.
While having a high frame rate (100/200 fps) is great - for me, it’s more crucial to have a stutter-free experience.
Thats why for me more important is vsync and stutter-free 60 FPS than FG and “fake” 500 FPS
