Same thing here, you can even open the free cam mode to see the ridiculous runaways that the automatic missiion generator put to us. you need to close with Alt+F4 to wuit.
Another simple bug to solve that Asobo not even put in the solve list…this game is ■■■■ frustrating.
Same thing just happened to me. The only way I could get back to briefing was to plug in an Xbox controller. The menu said to press “B” to get back to briefing. That worked. I didn’t want to use Ctrl+Alt+Del, in case it wouldn’t log my flight.
Was this ever fixed ? I’m stuck in free cam every time now… I did change keyboard layout from 2020 to 2024 and back… I think this is where the issue come from but I just can’t fix it…

I think I have found a workaround to be able to use free camera mode without losing our custom key assignments. This works for Spanish users. I assume it may also work for other languages, but I can’t verify this.
When you press ESC and are using the standard general keyboard layout (Keyboard 2024 Transversal in Spanish), you see the prompt [ESC] for back and [Q] for accessing Free Camera mode.
Once you enter Free Camera mode, the “Back to Briefing” button appears accompanied by the prompt [ESC].
These prompts don’t exist if you are using a customised keyboard layout.
If you have the standard layout mentioned above, exiting Free Camera mode is guaranteed. However, if you enter Free Camera mode using the custom keyboard, you cannot exit.
Therefore, the solution is: After pressing ESC but before entering Free Motion, you must go into Settings and change your custom keyboard, the General keyboard, to the standard MSFS keyboard, i.e., Keyboard 2024 Transversal. After using free camera mode, before pressing “resume” you must go back into settings and so recover your custom keyboard.
This closes the game. Don’t do this unless you want to lose your flight.
