[Freeware] [Work-In-Progress] PAOT - Ralph Wien Memorial Airport

PAOT has been a hobby project of mine for some time now.

I released the first stage a few months ago. It contained the main runway (9-27), the apron and the buildings surrounding it.

I have done a few smaller airport in the past - mainly for MSFS 2020 - but this is my first stab at a bigger airport, and my first in MSFS 2024.

Right now I’m getting ready to release stage two - which is going to be the secondary runway (18-36) with apron and buildings.

I’m also adding a helipad … and a water runway

At the far end of runway 18-36 lays an old WW2 barrack and a rusty barge.

I have two more stages planned for the future of the airport, an update to the adjacent city of Kotzebue.
And an update to the surroundings in general (including the old US-Radar Station and the windmill farm) But more on this later

I really hope you like it.
Please let me know what you think.

Stay tuned for more WIP-Stuff  AND a new release of PAOT very soon…

Cheers
KeV

Looks great — I know it’s for 2024 but will it work in 2020? Cheers.

Looking awesome! I’ve flown out of your original version a number of times and the stuff you’ve built so far looks fantastic. Can’t wait for the update!

Hi JakTrax78 - I’m pretty sure it wont work with 2020, unfortunately… There are some major differences in the two SDK’s. I’m not even sure it will open in 2020? But let me know how it goes if you try it out :slightly_smiling_face:

Thanks Editer … Glad to hear that I’m not the only one flying PAOT :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Hi LegibleSphere83
So glad you like it - means a lot to me.
Cheers

I have been test-flying PAOT stage 2 today :slightly_smiling_face: The “new” runway 18-36 -and vicinity, is getting a close inspection.

Ups… Found a few boulders at the end of the runway

Passing by the runway 18-36 - Lots of parking spots - Perfect for group flights.. (just saying)

Even found the barge-wreck…

Coming in for a landing on runway 18-36

Returning to hangar - …to find my spot has been taken

Well, will park it out side them - done for today
Found a few things to correct. But not far until release/update …

Work has now begun on Stage 3 of PAOT - This time updating Kotzebue city.

I can (unfortunately) not update the whole city … and not even to the detail level I would like - Sim-Performance would surely suffer, big-time.

It’s quite a challenge to keep it as low-poly as possible. These buildings are not meant to be seen up close, mostly from up high and just passing by, but I still try to maintaining the look and feel of the real buildings.

So I have started with some of most “present” or iconic buildings that are close to the airport, a couple that I really wanted to do for a long time.

Adding these will mean a lot for the view of Kotzebue, as seen from the airport.

More work being done on Stage3 - Updating Kotzebue city…

This is actually testing me :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: … I’m trying to get as much detail into the models as I can, and at the same time build as low-poly as possible - to not kill performance in the sim.

None of these building are meant to be seen up-close, you only pass them in flight… But, I still want to do them justice and for them to be recognizable. And… there is just so many nice details, that just HAVE to be in there :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

It’s tough, but a good learning experience :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

A few more of the 20+ buildings that will go into the Kotzebue city update.

This is Kotzebue Middle-High school.

And Star of the Northwest Magnet School And Alaska Technical Center.

I’m gonna move into the harbor area next… Should be interesting, and give me something else, then buildings, to model…

Kotzebue harbor update…

Had to build a few cranes to service the barges

Lowpoly/LOD versions (above) and a higher poly-count version (below)

…and a couple of storage buildings…

Added a few containers, crates, oil drums and other stuff from my kev-library to complete the look.

Yes, I know… it’s a FLIGHT - not a boat-simulator :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: … But, I needed to upgrade Kotzebue boat harbor. So I build a few boats.

They will all be a part of the next update to my ‘Kev-Library’ - soon …

A few of them are also done as Sim-Objects - which means that they will bob and weave a bit

Alrighty then! - Stage three, out of four - of PAOT-Ralph Wien Memorial is done!!

Kotzebue City has been updated. The most iconic and visible buildings and places within the city has been updated.
I have done 25+ new custom buildings/models, all handcrafted with full PBR textures, day/night lighting, collision and LOD’s.

The skyline should now, hopefully - look a bit more like itself :crossed_fingers:

There are still lots of places in the city I want to update, but I’ll save that for a possible future city update

Right now it’s onwards to Stage four - ‘Surroundings’… Exciting

Remember to also download the newly updated ‘kev-library’ (ver.1.2) to get the full experience.

I just took a look in the sim, you did a great job! Even though most of the area has poor (flat) photogrammetry, you brought Kotzebue to life.

Thanks for commenting @SanderCohen7 I’m glad you like it :+1: ..and you are absolutely right, the imagery and photogrammetry, in this part of rural Alaska is definitely not the best - I really hope the area will get an update on that front at some point.
