Lost in the immensity of the Great Southern Ocean, these lands are rarely visited by anyone, let alone those using MSFS.
Which is a pity, because they are some of the most scenic and wild places on the planet. Here, for example, are some screenshots of Grande Terre & neighboring Islands in the Kerguelen Islands.
There are no airfields at all on any of the islands, so you’ll need to either start airborne, or on the ground. Helicopters would be a good choice of aircraft, as you’ll want to land and explore. The Magni Gyro M24 and Powrachute Sky Rascal are good alternatives too.
The islands once were heavily glaciated, as evidenced by the numerous U-shaped valleys, sea-lochs and lakes:
Part of the island is covered by a permanent icefield:
The western side has dramatic sea-cliffs:
and you can lose yourself in the topographical maze that makes up the island:
As the sun started to set, my copilot decided that this would be a good spot to pitch our tent for the night:

Next stop: the Crozet Islands.
These are not well-represented in 2024.
Looks pretty good as I start on East Island:
but when I fly over to the other side of the mountain, one sees a clear delineation where the textures change to a much lower resolution:
This is not a streaming issue - you can see this in the world-map too.
Let’s head west over to Possession Island:
This does not look too bad on approach:
I thought that I’d be the first to visit this island , but no! @PuffinFlight has been here before me, installing a communications tower:
Unfortunately, this island also is marred by low-resolution textures:
It’s a long way to get to Pig Island. This is looking back to Possession & East Islands:
I’d suggest you not spend any time flying there, as this island is marred by low-resolution textures too:

Let’s take a small detour away from the French Southern & Antarctic Lands to the Australian external territory of Heard and McDonald Islands as they are only a mere 450 km (240 nm) southeast of the Kerguelen Islands.
Here we are on the shores of Heard Island on Hoseason Beach, about to circumnavigate the two volcanoes:
And off we go!
I was a bit surprised to find these buildings on Abbotsmith Glacier!:
The view from Mawson Peak (2,745m). McDonald Island is way off in the distance:
and back on the coast again, back where we started:
