Frequent scenery Stutters on a top-of-the-line hardware with high FPS: 7950X3D + RTX4090 (2D and VR)

DX12 is definitely smoother for me. I think this was the case across all HMDs.

Perhaps more could try unplugging more devices and see what happens?

I have these scenery stutters also. Every 10-20 seconds, 1sec freeze. CPU is anti-spiking then. See image. Every cache deleted, changed usb ports of my gear, old nvidia drivers and new ones… nothing tackes this annoying freeze-stutter.

PC:
4090
5800x3d
32gb CL14 3800mhz

I feel like I’ve had a breakthrough.
this is non-vr.
2D setup with 3 monitors. The sim on only 1.

I am currently running MSFS at ultra settings with the two main sliders at 200 and resolution at native 4k on TAA. But of course frame gen is turned on. I get a steady 80 fps dipping only into 50’s and 60’s in certain situations. max fps is locked at 80 in the nvidia control panel.
Stutters are 99.9% gone. That .1% being the very occasional, barely noticeable, single stutter.
Specs:
7950X3D
64gigs DDR5 in expo 6000mhz.
Asus tuf 4090 24gig.

  • online is on
    -photogram is on
    -bing world data is on
-ai traffic is off for now (haven’t tested it yet)
-real world traffic is off for now (also haven’t tested)
    -multiplayer is on

What did the trick?
Well I’m not entirely sure. Because all in one single swoop I did the 3 following updates.
-bios (one of many in the recent past) (MSI)
-another AMD chipset update (X670E)
-the most recent PMDG update that specified better performance for low/mid end PC’s and Xbox.

And while some… or all of these are going to be motherboard, CPU, and aircraft-specific, therefore hit and miss for anyone reading this, it’s worth mentioning because it’s the 4th or 5th bios update they have released and this one specifically states ā€œimproved DDR5 efficiencyā€ And as for the PMDG goes, I recently had come to the point where I could take out any basic GA aircraft or even the A2A Comanche and get stutter-free performance. But as soon as I got the PMDG out, stutters were showing up.
Now I can run the PMDG and do final approaches/landings at he heaviest payware airports without any stutters. Just not sure what helped the most here. Could have been the PMDG update. Of course I don’t have a low end PC, but better performance on low end should translate to better performance overall on anything. And It’s no secret that PMDG 737’s and similar are heavy CPU hogs. Could have easily been interfering with the CPU’s ability to keep a buttery-smooth feed to my 4090.
As far as other settings go if anyone is curious.
I am running DX12 so I can use frame gen.
ultra low latency is turned on in Nvidia control panel
preferred power is set to max
and frame rate is locked at 80.
Hags mode is on in windows settings (required for frame gen)
let see what else, max power settings on windows power management. That’s pretty much it. I have been cautiously optimistic for the last several days since I first discovered this improvement. Hesitant to declare it a victory for fear stutters would come back. But as of right now I have had somewhere around 30 hours of trouble and stutter free flight in the PMDG and I am blown away. It’s definitely better than it’s ever been. If you can do any of these updates. Do so now.

So my stutters are back…. Had everything set up perfectly, somwhate smooth gameplay even in VR, until yesterday…. I don’t know what changed, then only that I did was install inibuilds manager to install Honolulu. Since then, it’s been a stutter-fest, every second a pause, literary a ¼ sec pause.

Have since deleted Honolulu - no change.
Deleted inibuilds manager - no change.
Deleted the last ten items added into com folder - no change
Downgraded NVidia from 537.13 to 536.99 clean install - no change

Currently getting 60fps (except for the ¼ sec pause every second). This is worst in VR, but still happening in 2D, only pause is 1/16-ā…› of a second, every second.

This issue occurs in the middle of a desert, or in a city with or without phogramatry on or off.

Does anyone have any clue as to what the actual F is going on??? Any help? I don’t want to reinstall the whole dam sim, but if thats what needs to happen…?

EDIT 1: Removed the community folder - No change.

Additionally, here are screen grabs:

Can anyone tell me what CoherentGTDraw is? It seems to lined up with the studders (cause or affect I’m not sure).

If i remember correctly, this has to do with rendering cockpit displays. maybe someone can correct me if I’m wrong. I for one believe that the random studders we face are server related. Not sure with SU it was but i believe they offloaded some rendering of cockpit displays to server based. SU5?

I had this happen a long time ago, say late 2021, maybe…. Not sure if it had anything to do with the cockpit though. It didn’t matter whether inside or outside the aircraft, glass or steam gauges, made no difference. I have also cleared out my rolling cache, and NVidia cache…

I would try this, Xbox Verify & Repair, before a re-install of the whole sim.

Just be sure you have backed up anything you want to keep.
But the Catch22 is that you may backup the problem also.

same here, and after a while the ā€˜big’ stutters get worse and worse
every %&^&) second.

The real question is what is causing it though? It’s like a program is making a call for some data, but what?

10+ HOURS FARTING AROUND WITH THIS!!!

Remove and installed new NVidia drivers, old and new
Removed community folder
Did the ā€œNDUā€ fix
Lowered graphics settings to LOW
Rebooted internet modem (direct wired connection 1GB d/l speed)
Deleted DX cache
Deleted NVidia DL and GL cache
Changed GPU speeds up and down
DLSS TAA doesn’t matter
Game mode on/off no change
HAGS on/off no change
Never use AI traffic

WHAT is causing this??? :weary: :weary: :weary:

Because that’s how this thing is coded!!!

Since release there have been literally HUNDREDS of threads like this. There is no ultimate cure for this. I run a 13900ks @ 5.6 GHz and it doesn’t do ANYTHING compared to running it @ 5. The 4090 helps greatly with the fps but I also get the occasional stutter every few seconds when panning around.

They will not and cannot fix this.
It’s built on the old fsx code and that made perfect sense from a business standpoint because neither Asobo nor MS could have guessed how much of an success and a money printer this was gonna become

Sit back, wait for 2024 and let’s all pray they pull this off without botching it!

The performance in SU13 is just stuttery over all at the moment. Reaches a small corner in all phases of flight.

Hello! I’m curious if Sim Update 13 has improved this issue for anyone here, or if you are still seeing the same issues as reported in the OP?

Hey, thanks for asking!

I have the impression that I am getting fewer stutters than before on DX12 in VR. Was stutter reduction / performance improvement an intended aim of the update?

There were various performance and memory fixes made in the Update, so I was checking on this particular one. Appreciate the feedback!

My last two days of flying, I have had great performance on DX12 (on a 4090, Windows 11, 32gb DDR5 RAM) when I’ve started my flight and departure… but each time, when I was landing at the destination, my FPS dropped significantly – like down to 5fps. Looks like my RAM was at 100% as well, which seemed a lot – so, to me, there’s a new/different bug going on that seems to be plaguing DX12 folks (the texture bug, the stutters, etc.)
