Turbulence stuff
That’s not strictly true, as I have demonstrated on several occasions, across several versions. What would be up for debate would be how violent those reactions are. Active Sky FS does a much better job than sim-default does, but it is there.
Does anyone think turbulence over land is realistic atm? - #96 by hobanagerik
Looking at that age of that post I realise it would be worth re-testing in the current iteration of 2024.
Just as wake turbulence is a thing, but again the effect is woefully underpowered. It’s more like mechanical turbulence from terrain below, often felt when flying over residential areas at low levels.
Wake Turbulence has little to no effect - #46 by hobanagerik
ASFS has shown what can already be done with third party tools, but it would be better if the sim did this natively, or at the very least exposed some kind of scalar adjustment. Turbulence already exists, but one specific to clouds, in this case.
For the ground, I’m not sure if I did braking distance checks on different surfaces. I can see above that I posted about the different ground types that are detectable, but not their possible effects.
If the sim doesn’t expose these values, or simulates them itself, it might be something the community has to do for itself. I could see a third party tool looking at surface conditions, surface type, aircraft weight, and dynamically adjusting the friction of the wheels.
