Does anyone think turbulence over land is realistic atm?

I just did a quick test in the Cessna 182 RG.

Took off from the Isle of White, over the sea for a few miles, then turned back towards it. Flying on autopilot, heading mode, at 2500ft.

See if you can spot the point I reached the land. :slight_smile:

I believe Y is the vertical component, and that was the most easy to see as the plane moves up and down quite a bit in your field of view. I’m not sure if the external camera dampens lateral forces though.

Repeating this for the Storm weather preset. The glitch at just before 60 seconds was before I made land, so was presumably the edge of the storm in front of me, where I was out at sea, and not yet in the cloud.

The big dip in X, into the minus, was show in the sim. The plane was clearly being blown to the left, and you could see its nose pointing at between 2, and 3 o’clock. Notice also the huge emphasis on the vertical, with a very high frequency bobbing up, and down motion. 85 seconds is roughly where I made land.

The plane is experiencing these affects, but the external camera is pretty much cancelling the X, and Z effects out. Y remains largely unaffected as you can see the plane drift up, and down quiet easily.

I’ve also shot some footage showing forces acting on the plane, viewed from outside.

Note that when outside the clouds its pretty smooth, just what you might expect while flying above terrain, but as soon as you get near the clouds, and further into them, these forces increase. The argument can certainly be made that that these are far too tame, but I think it’s also a fair argument to say that the plane not experiencing anything at all is incorrect.

A slightly better view of the stormy weather with regards to acceleration. I’ve also separated the Y values on to its own axis to better show the other two.

Up to 115 seconds in I was flying over the Isle of White, heading towards the storm clouds. You can see the difference a few seconds after that, when in the cloud.
