Its time to buy the game. I am going for the basic version. Do I need to do things in certain order so I don’t get problems?
Would I have to download the game again?
I upgraded from game pass to premium deluxe.
No you don’t have to download again. I used the windows store to buy the game and that’s it. For me, I downloaded additional content through the in-game content manager though for you, the game pass version is no different to the basic version so nothing should change. The only thing different is the fact that you now own the licence for the game rather than relying on the game pass.
Thanks BobbyFuzzy
If you purchased any “addons” or upgrades during gamepass, make sure you purchase the game from the MSStore using the exact same Microsoft user account you used to sign up for game pass. Otherwise, they will not be able to link your purchases to the new version.
I upgraded to Premium Deluxe, while still on Gamepass and subsequently purchased standard. I was told by Zendesk that my upgrade and add-on’s were persistent as long as I purchased the MSStore version with the same user account that I used to connect to gamepass.
" Hi P
Thanks for contacting us regarding Microsoft Flight Simulator.
As long as you have purchased a digital copy of Microsoft Flight Simulator from the Microsoft Store on the same Microsoft account that was used to subscribe to Game Pass and to purchase the Upgrades, you will not lose any content.
You would only lose access to your content if you’re not using the same account since there is no way for the system to recognize purchases made on a different account.
Hope that helps.
Best regards,

I downloaded and installed Standard edition of Microsoft Flight simulator via Gamepass and shortly there after upgraded to the Premium Deluxe edition based on the wording in the Marketplace that it included the Base Content as well as the extra content. I assumed that I had purchased the full game at this point.
It was later discovered that this was incorrect and that if I cancelled Game Pass in the future, then my Game would no longer be accessible.
I have since purchased the Standard Edition from the Microsoft store.
If I at a later date cancel game pass, will ALL purchases from Marketplace transfer to my Standard Edition stand alone license, including third party content and the aforementioned Premium Deluxe upgrade that I purchased prior to actually purchasing the Standard edition.
My best guess is if you want to buy the base item, you have to be sure that you will be committed to never purchase the deluxe/premium upgrades. Because it’ll become more expensive than just buying them directly as a bundle.
That being said, I would think you should purchase the whole game first using the same microsoft account, then cancel GamePass so you won’t have access issue.
I went from GamePass to Deluxe. I clicked on it through GamePass to ensure I got the discount and then when I went back into the game it was as if nothing changed. I didn’t have to download it all again. All I had to do was go into the Content Manager and download the (now available) additional aircraft and airports. If you’re planning on cancelling your GamePass after, make sure you do it after you buy MSFS just in case.
Just be sure to not buy the in game marketplace upgrade packages, too many people have made that error. They don’t contain the base game.
I canceled my Gamepass service first but did not uninstall the sim. Purchased Standard through the MS Store and did not have any problems. Did not have to download the sim again.
Oh ? Nice to know. It’s not the most cost effective way but sounds like at the end of the day a good news. Same here: while on Gamepass subscription, I felt trapped when I acquire the Premium Deluxe upgrade and was told via Zendesk that I will loose the extra content of the Premium Deluxe in case of closing my Gamepass subscription AND acquiring standalone MSFS Basic version. Two tickets, two different answers.
Yeah, I too was trapped by the unprecise wording that unfortunately was part of the upgrade description early on. I thought I got a deal that would save me 30 bucks when it actually ended up costing me 20 bucks more in the end.
I purchased the standard version later as a firewall against losing my content if necessary (it was on sale). I still have GamePass as I use it for my Xbox One, and for the extra 5 bucks a month to go ultimate, it’s a no brainer.
I don’t plan to cancel GamePass in the near future, but it is nice to know that now that I have the game, and the official response from MS, that if I do, I won’t lose Premium Deluxe.
I’ve stopped the recurrent billing (but not actually cancelled) my £3.99 per month GamePass today because it’s due to increase to £7.99.
The thing is, I went into the Microsoft Store to buy the standard edition and right now it’s offering me 20% discount (down to £47.99) BECAUSE I have a GamePass membership!
Any ideas? I fear that MS will work out that I “tricked” them by saving money at exacly the same time as I stopped the subscription.
The XBOX app is annoying becuase I only have the choice to “play now”, as opposed to “buy the standard edition, proper”.
Any ideas or suggestions would be much appreciated!
Has anyone cancelled Gamepass, purchased through MS Store version with GamePass discount, and had any problems later? I cancelled my game pass but because my subscription runs for another 10 days, MS Store is presenting me only with the option to purchase Premium Deluxe with the 20% Gamepass discount. I’m worried that if I purchase it, something will get screwed up when my game pass expires next week. Advice appreciated!
I purchased the Deluxe edition (at a discount) and as soon as I confirmed it worked I cancelled my Game Pass recurring billing. I did it at the beginning of November and have had no issues.
After you purchase Deluxe or Premium Deluxe, go into the Content Manager and download the new aircraft and airports. They show up now but don’t automatically download.
I have done exactly that and it is ok. I would imagine that MS is fully aware of this and it is ok to do it this way. Mine was done 3 weeks ago and be now my game-pass subscription is lapsed and all is ok.
