So it’s summertime in New Zealand right now with it being a balmy 66f at Tekapo. Fly a few miles to the west and you go through a magic portal that transforms the very ground beneath you into a Winter Wonderland. Even Lake Pukaki itself freezes over before your very eyes.
Yes, even in the middle of summer, the New Zealand South Island has frozen over. Anyone else flying in Kiwi Land experience this phenomenon?
I was around the Mt. Cook region a few days ago and it was like this. I just assumed it was completely normal. I even saw someone who did a bush landing on what would assumably be a frozen over patch of water.
I’ve been to Mt. Cook in February irl and it was warm and sunny in the valley with there only being snow way high up in the mountains. Maybe they’re having an abnormal cold snap but I have a feeling MSFS is being weird
And a few hours ago I was enviously amazed that you could go skiing and tanning on the beach at the same time.
Around Mount Cook, however, I had some errors in the mesh (Orbx), but it was also possible that it was due to another add-on. I’ll check again tomorrow.
Hmmm, interesting feedback! I do have Bijan Trees installed, using Winter North - Summer South setting. And it’s now snowy everywhere. Check out this screenshot i just took up by Hokitika (been to the Wild Food Festival there and ate some crickets! but i digress…)
You can see it’s mostly snow-free until getting close to the mountains. This is live weather. Very strange!
I think it’s trying to pick up a small dusting of snow on the tops of the mountains but the way snow is rendered in game is pretty basic and low res so it blankets a huge area in several feet of it regardless of elevation.
Snow coverage really needs to be removed from areas below the freezing line, or at least where air temp >0 deg C.
It’s one of the things I hope they improve with seasons.
Well, not flying, but ground-bound and IRL in Tekapo around 10-Dec and can certainly say there was no snow anywhere! Being summer, I doubt any has been ‘added’ since then!
Snow in Milford Sound with sea ice with default live weather enabled. I don’t think they even get sea ice in winter. Outside temperature was 15c, so at least that was right. No other weather related mods installed.
