FS 2020 in VR: 3090 vs. 6900XT. Quest 2. My Test results

I am a 1 month 3090 user and today I received my 6900XT.

I did comparison tests between both the whole day.

Also FS 2020 in VR with my Oculus Quest 2. Using Oculus Link and the newest Beta software v24.

Here are my test results: 3090 vs. 6900XT - Google Sheets

To sum it up: Forget the AMD 6800XT and 6900XT for FS2002 if you want to play in VR. I bet even the 3070 would be better in VR. The 3090 destroys(!) the 6900XT in VR. It looks better, it runs smoother and the fps measured are also much higher.

I can set rendering resolution to 150% on the 3090, and it feels smoother than with the 6900XT at 100%.

I have tested both with the same VR settings with 100% and 150% rendering resolution.

The Oculus Quest 2 was set to 1.5x (4848x2448@90Hz).

Situation was: Tokyo Haneda RW22 at todays date 09.01.2021 at 12am. On runway.
Aircraft: Diamond DA62, my favourite aircraft for sightseeing flights around Tokyo.

Rig: Intel i9-10900k@Stock. 32GB G.Skill Trident Z Neo 3600Mhz CL18. 2TB Intel 660p, 1TB Samsung Evo 960. PSU Corsair SF750. NCase M1.
nVidia Driver: 461.09 (07.01.2021)
AMD Driver: AMD Radeon Adrenalin-Treiber 20.12.2 (18.12.2020)

Tomorrow I will attach screenshots of my FS2002 VR settings.

Thought this might be helpful for your buying decision because I could not find the information I wanted and did the testing myself.

Thank you very much for taking the trouble to do this. I’m in the market for a new PC that’ll run MFS2020 in VR so this was a great help

I have a RIFT S, waiting for the G2.

I built a new pc and came from an i5-9400F, RTX 2060 OC, 32GB RAM @ 2666 MHz, M.2 SSD where I could only play VR on lowest settings in non glass cockpits.

Now I have Ryzen 7 5800x, RTX 3090 (461.09), 32GB RAM @ , 3600MHz, M.2 SSD. And the difference is amazing. I can play on Ultra in glass cockpits and I still get 30-40 FPS.

(Mind you, I tested all that at Sedona airport!)
However, Flying any glass cockpit plane over Manhatten drops my FPS back to sub 20, which sucks. I’m still limited by Main Thread, so I have to figure out of to get that fixed. Maybe I should drop my traffic settings some more.

that’s not a fair comparison, 3090 is +50% more expensive than the 6900 XT and your best case scenario gives you 60% more performance, but the average is still around 30%. Maybe the 3080 will be a good competitor to the 6900 XT (price/fps)
