FS 2024: Do clouds still cast shadows on the ground?

Do clouds still cast shadows on the ground in FS 2024 like they do in FS 2020? It is partly clouded over EDDF and the ground looks the same everywhere, eventhough there should be cloudshadows.

It is also my experience that the cloud shadows are very much washed out. Cumulus clouds over flat terrain should cast clear sharp shadows. Nothing similar occurs in MSFS24. It also requires a really thick cloud layer to block the sun from throwing object shadows. In fact, one has to go back to the pre-SU5 MSFS20 when the lighting in the cockpit actually changed rapidly when the airplane entered a cloud shadow.

It is hard to get Asobo to care about clouds and atmospherics until these posts get signfiicantly more votes. Share this to your fellow flight sim friends and discords to get more votes for these! The engine is capable of doing this!

anyone here with the wrong cloud coverage problem ? now i have full medium clouds cover but the sim always choose high ammount of cumulus clouds which is unrealistic in this part of the year .

That’s exactly the problem with the MSFS “Live Weather” - unfortunately it only (or most of the time) seems to know cumulus clouds, although I have to say that the depiction of the weather has improved somewhat since SU1.
And yes, you can hardly see the cloud shadows any more, and it gets brighter in a cloud in the cocpit instead of the other way round!

hello guys, maybe I’m going through off topics… but I wanted to know if it’s normal that I don’t see the shadows of the clouds on the ground from a certain height…

No, you should see them even with Asobo default weather. I’m using Active Sky here, and you can see a gap in the mostly overcast clouds on the ground.

I can see the crescent shaped gap in the clouds above.

yes indeed I wrote from a certain height if you go above 15000 ft and look below even if it’s cloudy the shadows can be seen reflecting.::

Unfortunately the cloud density is not there for the most part …

It may be a LOD thing, though I would imagine what I saw was further away than 15000ft along the ground.

Can very much see cloud shadows in 2024. Flew all over the Shenandoah Valley this evening with mixed broken, overcast, and few layers, shadows were well-represented. And the clouds honestly looked great.

Msfs does not have cloud shadows, it cheats, using cloud reflections instead. That explains why you dont see the darkness of the cloud in your cockpit until you fly under it. If uses the dark underside of the cloud to reflect darkness onto the ground. This also explains the exaggerated light reflections onto everything during dawn and dusk.
