FS 2024. New install keeps CTD

Hello Simmers

Todays date = 31-03-2024
Yesterday, I bit the bullet and bought the standard version of FS 2024 (I debated the deluxe version - glad I didnt now!). That X-Box app declares that I have played it for 1.4 hours! That’s JUST all the attempts that I have made at trying to even get it started. Every (almost) time it reaches around 12 - 14 % of “Activating Packages” it simply freezes for several seconds before a CTD. I said ‘almost’ above - that’s because a few times it’s done the same thing when it reaches about 6% of “Loading Languages”.

I spent many hours reading and trying many suggestions - all the usual Re-Boots, Repairs, Resets, Uninstalls & Reinstalls. A couple of times I manually deleted the Packages folder and then did a Repair. I have disabled the “start apps in full screen” (in that X-Box thingy). etc. I tried several more times between 07:30 and 09:00 this morning.

If anyone can suggest something that I haven’t tried, I will much appreciate it. I will try it and keep all my fingers and toes crossed. My thanks in advance for any possible solution that may come my way.
I have seen many youtube reviews, so it would appear that SOME simmers have been lucky.

Is this what I paid £69.99 out of my old age pension for? I will not repeat here what words I am thinking right now. . . .

For the record; I decided to keep FS 2020 on my C drive, for the time being, just in case!

My PC spec’s = i9 14900KF; 64 GB system RAM; C drive is a 2TB M.2 (2x 1TB backup M.2 drives and 1 olde fashioned mechanical 1TB); MSI RTX 3080Ti - 12 GB. I still have about 700GB space on the C drive.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that my internet is full fibre @ 520Gbs

Many thanks in advance
Glenn

So I have lost count how many times I have tried to get it started just today. At one point my eyes lit up and for a brief moment I thought I migh be getting somewhere - it actually got to 43% loading sim objects - I was really getting excited, but then, OH DEAR CTD yet again. All subsequent attempts have reverted to around 12% befoe CTD. I unistalled it at one point and tried installing on one of my other M.2 drives, but nothing changed. Currently waiting for it to reinstall back on the C drive. . . . .

Hi @GlennAir1953

We’ve moved your topic from the Discussion Hub > General Discussion category to the User Support Hub > Crashes (CTDs) category as this is the best place for your topic.

We have a number of articles on our Zendesk Portal that may be helpful for the issues you are facing:

If you’re still struggling, you can also contact our Customer Support team by creating a ticket on the Zendesk Portal.

Thanks
The MSFS Team

I have read reports that having HDR enabled will cause CTDs. I don’t have an HDR monitor so I can’t confirm it.

Btw - I have HDR10 turned on since day one and no CTD.

This link is from the Support tab at the top of the forum page.

If this doesn’t help, there are more articles there that may.

Thanks for the tip, but my monitor does not support HDR either.

Was only one in there that I hadnt tried (Repair Gaming Services) which unfortunately didnt improve matters. Thanks for the link anyway.

I now have a ticket open with them - anyones guess how long it will be before I get an answer!

WOOOO bloody HOOOO! So after countless hours searching, reading, rebooting, restarting and goodness know what else I FINALLY got it installed and running. So what did it, I hear you ask? I’m not sure which one it was (cos I un-installed them all in one go - wasnt keen on doing one at a time); Un-installed these:- MSI Afterburner, River Tuner, Intel Tuner, and from FS2020 ORB X Central. Done a reboot. And VIOLA! Now to have a bit of a fly around and see what happens. . . . .
