FS2020 VR user pondering if now is the time to jump to FS2024 for VR?

Long time user of FS2020 in VR on my I13700K/RX6800XT/32GB RAM based rig with Reverb G2.

I have deliberately avoided FS20204 so far because while I get a smooth 30fps or so in VR on FS2020 I have always believed that FS2024 would be too taxing for my rig in VR.

However I see that the VR Flightsim guy has posted on his youtube channel a video saying he is now finding the performance on FS2024 in VR superior to FS2020. Is this true???

I have a Mesh network so get about 70 Mb/sec speed from the sim room as I know this is more of a consideration for FS2024.

I would be grateful for any advice before I invest in FS2024, I don’t really want to invest £70 and get a stutterfest!!

Any advice?

I’d say yes. The various performance improvements made to 2024 since SU4 definitely make it worth trying, and then you’ve also got things like foveated rendering (even just fixed eye) that help too. I’ve not gone back.

I hung back for a while to let MS sort out the inevitable bugs but did install it at around SU2. TBH initially I thought MSFS2020 performed better, especially in VR but I did go back and forth, especially as I had a couple of aircraft that didn’t like 2024.

But SU4 seemed to be the turning point and suddenly everything got better in 2024, to the point I rarely use 2020 now (although it is still installed - for now!) I follow the advice of VRFlightsimguy for my settings (he did some on an identically specced machine) and I’m finding that everything now runs smoothly and without problems. My tip, don’t try to run at the highest settings, it’s not needed now.

Hi,

I too find myself using MSFS 2024 more and more. It has improved a lot over the last few months. Used to fly exclusively MSFS 2020 because of different issues with MSFS 2024. But now I can say that MSFS 2024 is quite usable in VR.
