Every Sim has its own way of defining controller devices, such as Joysticks, Yokes, Rudders, keyboards. etc..
The list is long and even if the way to setup “devices” in FS2020 is pretty good, it can be cumbersome. If you only fly one plane then fine, but if you have a dusin or more then it is a extremely time consuming effort.
Each plane with is own individual page for each controller device. In order to use an X-box type controller for drone camera, I had to spend a lot of time deleting all the other buttons in the default setup. Yes, I am whining a bit but please hear me out.
Now, you cannot ask say IniBuilds or Fenix to provide all controllers with default setups and I actually don’t think they do. So, FSUIPC7, Spad.Next and so many other things exist but though they do some things they are still lacking.
So, any chance of Microsoft/Asobo providing a section were people could share their device setup and key bindings? I imagine a lot of sub sections for all the different brands.
Not asking you to endorse or provide these bindings but would be great if people that have spent a lot of time doing this and who is willing to share.
Now, to be honest I am not even sure where all the settings are stored and if it can easily be done but just think it would provide help to especially inexperienced users who wants to join our community.
Thanks..
Just saw that someone is working on a controller profile backup app.
So, maybe use that or something similar to save the profiles..

I guess for the current sim (2020 as mentioned in title) that won’t happen as the profiles are saved in the cloud and already are pretty wonky.
On the next iteration it was announced that profiles will be stored in individual packages which enables easy sharing, so these can also be uploaded to flightsim.to or other places.
Also axis and buttons available to be assigned won’t be hardcoded anymore, instead the sim will read the aircraft configuration to see which buttons and levers are defined here, so in theory you can assign any button to anything - even a simple door handle ![]()
The information can basically be found in the last developer stream and the FS Expo presentation iirc.
It should be handy to have a complete setup for instant for the thrustmaster tca. Mine keeps resetting after every update and although i get quicker resetting everything it;s a pain in the ■■■ to do that every time
Excellent idea, I would prefer to save my profile safely somewhere locally so if cloud decides to go default then at least I can reload the local save version to update the profile.
You can do far more with SPAD than the standard profiles, what is it lacking?
Sorry this won’t work for Xbox users, but, have you considered approaching flightsim.to to support this?
Yup - see here for the comments by Martial Bossard about this.
Hi
Thanks for the reply. However since my suggestion is a section on this site would X-Box users even be able to see it here? Don’t have an X-box so don’t know.
Besides, it was my understanding that support for "advanced “devices” are limited on X-box. So would there even be the same requirement? The good thing about doing it here is that hardware developers could also create “official” profiles and place them here. Maybe even a “Certified for MS2020/2024 with profiles” certification…
Hope you get the idea.
No, Xbox users would not be able to participate in it, you’re correct. But I think it’s a useful idea even so to have a place to share profiles for PC users.
Sharing anything on Xbox, while an admirable idea and I always hope for the best, is a very complicated beast of an issue.
So, getting Microsoft to host them will be tough but I could see there being a slight possibility of it happening over the next few years (yes, it will likely take that long to set up and implement), getting them to “certify” them, however, nearly impossible.
Please understand the amount of work you’re asking them to do. They already can barely handle the throughput on the Marketplace. “Certifying” profiles (making sure they work across multiple platforms and game configurations)? Egad, I can’t imagine that happening for this.
If they certify any profiles, they’ll just deliver them with the software…
In theory thats true. But it still happened, what made me build that thingy in first place.
But it probably doesnt happen too often, indeed. Once in the years for me.
The situation was like, i have 21 profiles. Building the app was faster than to reset them all if it really is getting lost again ![]()
But it isnt neccessary, im with you.
Interesting info, that they cn be shared in next version.
Hello ![]()
The settings are stored in either
Gamepass/Store version
C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\SystemAppData\wgs\XXXXXXXXXXXXXX_000000000000000000000000XXXXXXXX
The X`es are different for every user. It has some numbers and letters.
Steam
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\XXXXXXXX\1250410\remote
But with steam, if you installed steam somewhere else or have other locations set to install, the place of the files can be in that folder. Like i have my steam installed on E:\Games\Steam, so i would have to look here.
Not very easy to explain but i think you will find it.
I made the app that someone mentioned. Just do one last change tonight, then i can share it if there is need.
i will eventually ^^ Im a bit scared that users overwrite the wrong profiles and blame me for it hehe.
Basically its ready but im hesistant so far.
When I was talking about certified setups I was NOT referring to Microsoft/Asobo.
More to say IniBuilds, Fenix - Or for that matter the hardware provider.
I spent a lifetime working in companies of similar size and industry - so don’t have any hopes of getting that up and running. Remember how hard it was to get Bluetooth up and running - almost never happened. But that is another story..
I wonder what exactly you mean with certified.
A controller profile isnt rocket science and everyone wants his button to be setup different I guess.
There an endless amount of hardware.
Only assumptions based on what I see in the WGs/cloudsave folder from here on:
Anyway, the way the cloud sync works here probably wouldn’t allow it to just put a file into the cloud save folder (at least for store version),.where the profiles are located.
There are multiple things going when creating a profile in msfs. One of em is that an own folder with the profile is generated, this folder has cryptic names like a long list of numbers and letters.
Additionally in this folder the profile itself is placed (again no name, just cryptic numbers and letters).
As a.thirrd step a.containers.index file is generated.
Outside of the single profile folder is an index file that probably lists all the things that have to be included into the cloud save.
And I assume this index file needs to be updated with the containers.index file from a given profile.
So, without having tested it, I don’t think one can simply put a profile from someone into his folder. It would need the rest too that’s happening when a profile is created.
But I’m glad someone proves me different:-)
This is the reason fory.backup tool one can only revert the backup into an existing file, created via msfs itself.
Because this way the sim itself registered it for cloudsave.
All this may be different for steam but as far I can see, the game pass and store version work like this.
Like said, if someone knows more about how exactly it works, I would be happy to know it.
