FS2024 - Cannot enable autopilot device in Basic Cessna c172

Despite switching on the avionics switches, I cannot get the autopilot display to come on in the Basic Cessna c172 in FS2024. Am I missing something. Does basic mean “no autopilot” even tho it’s in the dash?

My experience with the Basic Cessna 172 is even worse. When I select to departure from a ramp location where the plane is completely unconfigured, I can’t even start the engine. With the master switch on and alt on, turning the key to start doesn’t seem to do anything. No lights are working, the flaps won’t go down/up, it acts like all circuit breakers are popped even tho I checked it. Maybe same issue ?

I enabled dev mode and checked the console, it looks like the configuration file for the plane is all messed up, I have a bunch of errors like

[Error] Couldn’t find a component with name: “flapsmotor” make sure it is defined before it’s being referred to ; while parsing “Name:BUS_1_To_FlapsMotor # Connection:Con_CB_10A(BUS_1,FlapsMotor)#WearAndTearCollision:NoseDamageHigh,TailTopDamageHigh,TailBottomDamageHigh,LeftWingDamageLow,RightWingDamageLow”
File: SimObjects\Airplanes\asobo_c172sp\presets\asobo\c172sp_classic_passengers\config\systems.cfg

That explains why it doesn’t work. Please fix this!!

also the transponder and ADF are OFF

So I’m not the only one. Everything that is linked to avionics buses 1/2 seem to not work… AP, GNS530, Chrono, Transponder etc…

Very poor port from FS2020, without any kind of quality check!

Not only does the AP not work in the Cessna 172, but also in the Grand Caravan. I tryto open the AP in the cockpit, from my keyboard or from my Velocity One, no result… There are lots of issues which need to be adressed including the one when you are flying in the blue skies at 12,999 feet and the program says that you crashed!
However despite the aggravaion of suff not working I am starting to enjoy the scenery a lot, along with the airports populated with planes landing or taking off, occupied parkings but I could really do without the key binding
Keep on working Asobo team and we will get a hell of a flight simulator!

Not sure if this helps, but the default keybind for disabling the autopilot in the Cessna 172 is Ctrl+2. I clicked this while trying to see if there were different camera positions (Ctrl+1, Ctrl+2 etc.). Turns out I turned the AP off altogether and it wouldnt turn on when I pressed the AP button on the G1000. I hit CTRL+2 again and it worked.

Thanks for your help! That works fine.
The autopilot did not activate when i hit the AP Button or the Keybind on my controller. In active pause mode the autopilot deactivate itself immediately after unpause.
After hitting Ctrl+2 once, the AP Button and Keybindings work fine and the ap stay activated.

Thanks Colbar for this tip. I could not get the AP to work on the Beech Baron, and after hitting Ctrl2, I can use the Z key to to toggle AP on and off

Hi there captains, I’m also facing issues with AP on the Cessna 172 (on console) it’s like half working. While I’m able to maintain the direction it’s always a struggle for the plan to follow the altitude I set up. It will always start going down whatever altitude is set. It’s really annoying I don’t know what to do. If you have any tips…

Colbarr, thanks for this tip, saved me from going insane (although debugging autopilot helped to learn G1000 a little better  )
