I’m so looking forward to this event. Any word on Asobo/MS having a presence?
I have a purchased ticket but a new family commitment means I can no longer make it. Anyone want my ticket (no charge)
Martyn.
There won’t be any official presence from the Asobo or Microsoft team for this event.
I’ll be there on Saturday though just as me and not in any official capacity as a Community Manager! ![]()
Hi @Chewwy94, do you know if Microsoft will have a presence at https://www.simglobalexpo.com at the NEC next year?
Boy, for a huge event starting this weekend it’s crickets on the MSFS forums about this. I get that MS is not involved this time but, in the interest of flight sim in general, you’d think they would do a bit more to promote and remind people.
We’ve been advertising and reminding people of this event for a number of months via our Weekly Briefing blog post. As we’re not officially attending or sponsoring this event, we’re limited in our capacity to do a tremendous amount of promotion for it.
On a personal note, I’m really looking forward to attending on the Saturday and hope to meet some of you all there! ![]()
There have been mentions in Weekly Briefings yes and I appreciate those. I’m just curious why other forum members are so silent as well. Certainly we have a ton of British fliers that should be chomping at the bit to go and interact. I have recently started watching TwoToneMurphy’s streams and he is rabid about going and encouraging others.
I’ll be honest, apart from seeing it in a BATC post the other day, I had no clue about this event.
It’d be great to meet a few of you paraffin heads.
Thanks for the pics. I’ll be looking out for more info and impressions from the show as it’s posted.
As a regular attendee to the show at RAF Cosford over the years, I decided not to go to this.
Partly because it’s quite a bit further to drive to, partly because the exhibitor list wasn’t hugely exciting for my tastes, and partly because I’m happy with my current setup and didn’t want to get excited over stuff I don’t have, thereby becoming upset about what I do have ![]()
I’m happy to see an event in the UK again though!
That makes perfect sense. I think we would go again next year, especially if Microsoft were exhibiting, and for a first attempt at organising an event, they did brilliantly; it far surpassed my expectations and was a little overwhelming at times. I was walking around with my son and we made a mental tally of the cost of everything we wanted… Let’s just say I need to buy a lottery ticket ![]()
I went with my son yesterday too. Was a fun day out. Glad we didn’t make the journey JUST for the museum (in the other building) as although there was interesting stuff in there, there wasn’t much of it! Getting on the last ever Concorde to be built and the last one to make a flight was special.
It was nice to finally meet in person some of the people I’ve been chatting with and flying with online for the last 6+ years though!
Had my first try in a motion rig. Surprised there were exactly ZERO VR headsets to be seen.
Had a great day at the event yesterday. Pretty much saw everything so today instead of going I decided to tour Bristol city center. Wild city. Toured the ship The Great Britain
Sounds fun, though I love flight sim for the fact I don’t get motion sick, unlike in a real aircraft where I’m utterly hopeless. Maybe that would be a bridge too far.
Shocking about VR though. I remember trying some at Cosford years ago which is when I decided the technology was finally ‘good enough’ to read instruments, leading me to pre-order the Reverb G2 when it was announced as my first headset. That’s perhaps the next piece of kit I’d like to upgrade, so if I had gone along I was hoping to try some newer headsets to see the difference.
Lots of sons going along which is nice. I took mine to Cosford a couple of times but he was totally bored. Never liked museums, or aircraft. He was about 6 or 7 at the time. He’d still be bored now, haha
(But he has developed his own love of trains since.)
Heh, it can actually work both ways…at least while using VR anyway. It can help reduce motion sickness because your body’s getting a bit more feedback that makes sense versus what you’re seeing, but the motion rigs can also be quite realistic at using subtle turbulence to shoogle you about just enough that eventually… ![]()
Yes motion and VR is the way to go for anyone with the funding to do it, the motion really cuts down on the nausea, in fact for me it’s non existent. If I happen to get airborne in VR with the motion accidentally left off I soon know about it.
The Bristol show was fantastic , probably the best sim show I’ve been to , especially on the Sunday as there was more capacity to speak to people with it being quieter. I’m confident other vendors having seen the popularity of the show this year in its first outing will be attracted to attending next year.
That in itself may cause a problem as even in year one it seems like it’s popularity might have outgrown it’s venue size, which is both a big positive and also a shame.
Many many thanks to the south west simulation group for taking the initiative and organising this event , I had a great weekend.
That’s interesting to hear, since I don’t get any motion sickness from VR despite being hugely sensitive to it in real life, yet you are the opposite.
OK, if frame rates are low, or I use drone cam to whizz about the airport or scenery, I can get some motion sickness after 10 minutes. But in normal flying, even aerobatics, I don’t have issues so long as I’m not actually moving. But we’re all physiologically different I suppose.
On the topic of UK shows, I just heard about this one at the NEC in Birmingham (in Jan 2027), which has an element of flight simulation hardware but seems to be mostly racing orientated. I’d certainly not heard of it before. It might be new and may interest some ![]()
After buildIng up a tolerance to it VR stopped causing me nausea while sat in a static seat. Now I think I’m so used to the motion platform moving in harmony by brain starts to complain again when it doesn’t feel the motion.
I think most people could go straight onto a motion rig and VR without feeling any nausea , while going straight into static VR I think the majority of people would initially feel nauseous until they became accustomed to it.
Thank for the tip off about that sim show I’d not heard about it. I’m obviously a flight simmer , but my son is a sim racer and sim truck driver so that show would be a good day out for us both.
